Updating Adobe Acrobat on HP

I am trying to convert a Word document saved as a PDF to a form but continually get an error message - "you cannot edit this file as a form due to its security settings."  Searching the community I found a solution - install the updates.  Now, I'm having problems installing updates.  I followed the steps: 1) select "Help,", 2) select "Check for Updates." I then get the message "updates are ready to install." It asked me to close Adobe Pro and hit "retry" again but it's not possible to hit "retry" again with the software closed.

I just need to install updates....HELP!!!  This shouldn't be this difficult!!!
