Updating Adobe Acrobat to version 2026.001.21651 broke FileMaker Pro PDF integration

We use FileMaker Pro 11 and in one of our databases we use the PDF integration feature to view PDFs within FileMaker Pro. It was working without issue prior to updating to the newest version. After updating to the newest version of Adobe, the PDF fails to open. I’ve tried reinstalling / repairing both Adobe and FileMaker both of which appear to do nothing in terms of helping. It appears as if the PDF is trying to open in the web browser instead of in Adobe. Screenshot attached of what opens instead of Adobe. I’m under the impression that this feature in FileMaker Pro uses the Internet Access Plug-in, which shows to be updated to version 26.1.21651.0 as of 6/4/2026 at 8:03:24 PM.

Thank you to all for taking the time to read and help.

    Hi bet_8639,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble caused.

As mentioned, the issue appears to have started immediately after updating Acrobat to version 2026.001.21651. It is likely related to changes in how Acrobat’s browser/internet integration component is interacting with the application. Please try the suggestions mentioned below that may help isolate or resolve the issue:

    1. Check the default PDF handler

    • Open Acrobat.

    • Go to Menu > Preferences > General

    • Ensure that the “Open PDFs in browser” is disabled (if visible) and Acrobat is set as the default PDF application.

    Also, verify Windows default apps:

    • Settings > Apps > Default Apps.

    • Set Adobe Acrobat as the default for .pdf

    2. Disable browser-based PDF viewing

    • Open the browser settings

    • Disable the option “Open PDF files externally” (Edge) and Built‑in PDF viewer options.

    Then test FileMaker again.

    3. Test with Protected Mode disabled temporarily.

    • In Acrobat, go to Preferences > Security (Enhanced)

    • Temporarily disable the options “Enable Protected Mode at startup” and “Enhanced Security”.

    • Restart Acrobat and test again.

Note: Re-enable these settings after testing, as they are security features.

Let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi

    Hi Meenakshi,

Unfortunately the above fixes did not work for me.

Acrobat is set as the default viewer on my PC, and I did not see the option for “Open PDFs in browser” in my Adobe settings.

I also do not see any setting in my web browser to change how to view PDFs. Only on how to download them.

Disabling protected mode also did not work for me. I tested with them both unchecked and with one checked but not the other. I restarted Acrobat and tested in between each settings change.

    Thank you for your suggestions.
