Question

Visual color seems different no contrast in half-tones

Hello,

I’m facing a issue with the viewing of colors in Acrobat,

I made my pdf in PackZ and in it, my layer of “2_White” seems constrasted good (I have some parts that are 70% screening) but when I open it in Acrobat and my colleagues as well, we barely see the difference when we only have the layer of 2_White (without going into the preview with the separations)

Even when I’m trying to increase the value of my Lab I still don’t see the constrat in Acrobat. See the screenshots bellow for the view of both PackZ and Acrobat.

We tried different parameters but we can’t see what to do.

Thanks

    Dot gain.

Depending on what your Color Settings output profiles are, there will be some level of dot gain when your image is actually printed. When you select Output Preview in Acrobat, you are getting a more accurate representation as to what your piece will look like printed, as opposed to values in the file. Dot gain is particularly worse on screen values over 50% as the negative areas within the dot screen tend to fill in, so even at a minimal amount of gain, say 10%, your 70% White will read more like 80% on the sheet. Plus, other factors: Uncoated is worse than Coated, Laserprinting is worse than Offset, etc.

In our prepress we always define a darker colour to our White spot colours (I personally use 100C) so the differences between shades is more evident. Light tints like yours are difficult to even display on a screen since the difference is so tiny. It doesn’t change the values that are sent.

Personally, trying to accurately print any tint of a white ink is near-impossibly difficult. What exactly are you doing?

Maybe PackZ does something wrong? Just in case, how does this PDF look like in other PDF viewers (browsers, Preview etc?)

Seems better when I check it in PDF Viewer in Google Chrome. And it’s good in the preview in our workflow cloud.

But some colleagues or customers only use Acrobat for check if the file is good or no, and it’s a problem that the constrast in Acrobat doesn’t match the contrast in other hardware.

For me it’s more of a display issue in Acrobat.

Please consider posting the PDF here. Without such a sample it obviously is difficult to determine which viewer is correct (if any).
