What is the version number for the last version of Acrobat Professional 8

I continue to occasionally use a fully paid, licensed version of Acrobat Professional 8 under Windows 7 Professional/x64.

I have 8.1.0 installed according to Help/About.

I tried to learn if I have the last official Windows version but it seems I need to  try to download the latest one to learn its number.

If you know, please reply with the information I'm seeking.

thanks

john

The latest 8.x version available is 8.3.1. You can find all the updates here: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/8.x/

If you want to install them you need to do it one by one, in ascending order. To be honest, though, if it's working for you don't mess around with it too much, as it's very likely to stop working if you do... Also keep in mind that Acrobat 8 can't be activated any longer.

There's a special installer available for it that doesn't require activation. You can get it from here: Activation or connection error when starting CS3 or Acrobat 8

Not sure if it's 8.0.0 or 8.3.1, or something else, though.

I marked the reply as 'correct' but I have no way to know which patches since 8.1.0 were security significant and which are the ones that make the product hard to launch and run.

I can only conclude that I should:

1) Stick with what works for me now (it would be  nice to know just how much risk is involved) or

2) Do research to find an Open-Source solution that provides the tools I use.

I do not have the deep pockets to buy more recent seldom used Adobe software, especially not a cloud based subscription version.

Thanks again,

John

- There are release notes for each update. You can seek them out and do your own research.

- You can't pick and choose which updates to install. From your current version you can only install one version up at a time.

- Even if you had the latest 8.x version you'll still be using a decade-old software with serious security risks.

- The subscription model is significantly cheaper than the perpetual license model and can be stopped at any time (with possible penalties, though, depending on the term you've signed up for), unlike that perpetual model. It also helps you make sure you have the latest version that's compatible with your OS, so it prevents situations like this from happening.
