When converting a MS Word doc, some of my photos get horizontal lines through them

Sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. As per the description above, when converting a Word doc to PDF, you are getting the horizontal lines in the converted PDF, Is that correct?

Are you using Acrobat to convert the Word doc to PDF or trying to convert it through online services https://cloud.acrobat.com/convertpdf

Have you tried any other PDF file? If it is specific to one PDF, Is it possible to share the PDF file with us? To share the file, please use Adobe Send feature, upload the file, share the link to files via private message only, How Do I Send Private Message

If you are using Acrobat, then Choose High-quality Print under Acrobat preferences, go to Edit>Preferences>Convert to PDF>Highlight Microsoft Office Word>Click on Edit settings> Choose High-Quality Print from Adobe PDF settings, and see if this brings any difference.
