When I convert a Word document to PDF, the resolution of the images are very poor.

When I convert a Word document to PDF, the resolution of the images are very poor when in the full page view. When I zoom in, it looks normal so the actual resolution of the image is fine. I've already increased the PDF resolution both when converting to PDF and in the PDF file itself. I've also turned on smoothing for laptop screens. I've opened the same document in Chrome and it looks fine. It seems to be just when I am viewing in full page mode.

What method did you use to convert the Word doc to PDF?  There are a few ways, and some are better than others as to the quality and fidelity to the source doc.

I've used the standard print command in Word and used both options "adobe PDF" and "Microsoft Print to PDF". I've also saved as an Adobe PDF. I've also altered the Adobe PDF settings under "Convert to PDF" in Acrobat to have 2,000 dots per inch and maximum image resolution. Like I said, the actual resolution of the images are fine. It's when I am viewing it at the full extents of the page that it looks grainy. The text in the images look faded and some are various sizes as shown below. The first is the full page view and the next is the zoomed in view.

If you have Acrobat Pro installed, you have Adobe Acrobat Distiller as part of your installation.  Distiller will allow you really fine tune how images are processed while producing PDFs. When using the Create PDF tool on the Acrobat Ribbon in Word (assuming you have Acrobat installed) you can call up your precise Distiller settings in the Preferences.

And you can confirm your image's properties by using the object inspector in the Output Preview in Acrobat.

I'm not sure if this info is applicable to your use and software installed, but that's how I would create & inspect resolution in a PDF I create.
