When I try to select any text or even hover over pdf my cursor goes here and there and I am not able to select any text for copy paste

I’m experiencing a cursor issue specifically when working with PDFs. When I try to hover over or select text, the cursor appears offset and jumps around. Because of this, I’m unable to accurately select text for copy/paste.

 

Details:

 

App: Adobe Acrobat Reader

OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)

Issue occurs in: All PDF files

Zoom level: 100% (also tested other zoom levels – same issue)

Cursor behavior:

Cursor does not align with actual selection point

Selecting text highlights lines away from where the cursor is

Movement feels erratic/jumpy

 

What I’ve already tried:

 

Restarted system

Reinstalled Acrobat Reader

Reset mouse settings to default (Windows pointer scheme)

Tested in another browser (works fine in Microsoft Edge PDF viewer)

Issue persists only in Acrobat

 

Additional notes:

 

Mouse works perfectly fine in other applications

Issue is consistent across all PDFs

 

Could you please help identify what might be causing this or suggest a fix?

    ++Adding to the topic,

     

    Is this happening after the last planned update for April 2026?

     

    Conversely, if you don't have Adobe Reader updated to its current planned update, does the issue goes away after the update is applied?

    I hope you are doing well, and thank you for reaching out. We’re sorry for the trouble you had with the app and the workflow.

     

    On Windows, hardware (GPU) acceleration or DPI scaling can cause the cursor position to become offset from the actual text layer in Acrobat Reader. This results in:

    • Text highlighting away from the cursor
    • Jumping or erratic selection
    • Issue affecting all PDFs but only in Acrobat

    Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: Version: 26.001.21431. Planned update, Apr 14, 2026. Check for any pending updates by navigating to Menu > Help> Check for Updates. Install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again.

     

    Is it happening with one specific set of PDFs, or with all the PDFs? For testing purposes, please turn off the Enhanced security once from the app’s preferences.

    Go to Menu > Preferences > Security (Enhanced) > Uncheck Enable Enhanced Security > Click OK, restart Acrobat Reader.

     

    Also, from the same Preferences Window, go to Page Display > Switch Rendering Modes. 

    Change:

    • Rendering > Smooth text / Smooth line art (toggle on/off)
    • Ensure Enhance thin lines is unchecked (test both ways)

    Update the Video/Display driver along with all the mandatory and optional Windows updates.
