Question

Which Reader version still supported proofreading without manually selecting the tool every single time?

I just replaced my ancient laptop, but with the new one I also had to re-download Acrobat Reader which I use for text proofreading (that's my job). Except, the new version of course no longer supports that, instead I'm forced to manually select to "insert text" or "replace text" every single time. I'm wondering if anyone knows the number of the last Reader version that supported automatically doing that without having to select the right tool first, and where to download it? I believe it was some time in 2023 when that changed.

I’ve found the answer: It’s version 2022.003.20310

For my fellow professional proofreaders who all face the same idiotic problem of a company making their product worse and harder to use...

In Acrobat Reader DC you can pin the tool.

Doesn’t change the fact that I would have to manually select each time - with EVERY SINGLE EDIT - whether I want to replace or insert text. That’s just not happening, it needs to happen automatically the way it used to.

That’s what pinning the tool does… Did you click the pin icon?
