Question

While all pages appear in preview in "Booklet" option, some pages blank when printed.

I am trying to print a PDF that totals 32 pages. I select the booklet option in print settings, with front and back priniting. The printer destination is capable of front and back printing. The print preview shows everything oriented and ordered as I would like it, but when I print, some of the booklet pages are just gone. As in, one half of the 8 1/2" x 11" sheet is missing on one side of the sheet, while the other side has both "pages".

I am printing directly from Acrobat. The pages themselves within the file, if printed normally, would fit on a normal 8.5" x 11" sheet. Upon selecting the booklet option in the print settings, the print preview shows the pages being doubled on a landscape orientation sheet, and organized so that when printed, the sheets can be stacked and folded into a booklet. However, some of the now 5.5 x 8.5 pages are just not printed, despite appearing on the print preview. Some have both the back and front of the sheet having all the proper layout. Weirder still is this only occurs on a select few of the printed sheets.

This even occurs when I select "Print to PDF". So its not the printer.

There are no blank pages in the file, so I am at a loss as to what could be happening.

This is definitely odd, and until your second last line, I would have expected a problem with the printer driver or the printer.

I've never seen this - or heard of this problem. Does this happen with other PDF files? The fact that it also shows up when you print to PDF makes this a fairly easy test that does not waste any paper. If this happens only with this PDF (or other PDFs from the same source), I would suspect a problem with the PDF file.

Have you tried printing the original PDF file to PDF without using the booklet option? Does that also produce blank pages? That would then again point to the PDF file as the culprit.

Does your printer support different printer languages (e.g. PostScript, PCL, PCL6, ...)? If so, try one of the ohter options and see if that makes a difference.

When printing the file to size, each page appears normally. It's really quite bizarre.

I have discovered a workaround. Rather than selecting "Print to PDF", I instead use "Adobe PDF". The newly generated file has all the pages oriented and ordered properly, which I can then print to size on the printer without issue.

Is this in the original application to craete the PDF? In general, printing to PDF is not the best solution to create PDF files if your appliation allows a direct way to create PDF. When printing to PDF, your file is first converted to PostScript and that in turn gets convereted to PDF. This process has its limitations, and a direct creation of PDF can create a "better" PDF file.
