Why can't Adobe Release Working Apps?

Apart from earning shitloads of money from their clients, applications and services have degraded for many years. even on brand new high specs Macs, several Adobe apps just fail to work properly.

Adobe Acrobat DC crashes upon launching, Lightroom doesn’t even start (except when I reinstall macOS and then it works for a few days). If you revert to the web version because of this bullshit, half of the features are not available.

I also never had to customise anything on my Mac in the past; everything worked right off the bat. Prices were, lower, support was still crap. If someone can suggest decent replacement tools I am happy to throw Adobe in a deep hole and then piss on it. What an absolute joke this company has become.

Hi, @mike_v_freelancer, I’m on an M1, not an M5, but that should not make too much of a difference.

Hi, @mike_v_freelancer, I’m on an M1, not an M5, but that should not make too much of a difference.

Nonetheless, if all of the M5s, or all of the M(1–5)s were crashing as you are experiencing, you’d be correct to blame Adobe. But, that does not appear to be the case. As such, it is more than likely, something on your computer that is causing this. So, let’s rule out your computer, if that is not the gullty party, than please do continue to bash on Adobe.

    Some quick things to try:

    (A) Go into Safe Mode on your computer:

    1. Shut down your Mac.
    2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
    3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
    4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

When in safe mode, most of the extra things on the Mac are not turned on. Plus, Apple goes through a series of checks to make sure that some basics are working. If it had to fix them, that’s the liekly reason for item #5 above.

Now, see if you can start either Acrobat or LRC.

If you can, restart in normal mode and try again.

    (B) Try Apple’s repair approach: See https://support.apple.com/en-us/102518

I’m not sure how successful this might be as I’m not sure if only two applications failing as yours would indicate that this kind of repair is indicated. I only add this as it’s one of the tools in the tool box that might help.

    (C) Do some repairs on your Mac. MANY years ago my copy of Acrobat was acting poorly; just doing things badly. I contacted Adobe and they had no clue. I had heard about some software called “XX Cache Clearner,” and since nothing else was working, I tried that. They have a 10 day try-it period, so it was a no-loss dynamic. Go to https://www.northernsoftworks.com and download Tahoe Cache Cleaner. [If you chose to buy this, every update of the Mac OS generates a new update (which is why I identified it as “XX Cache Cleaner”) for this software (a very small charge). Any minor updates (during the year) are free.

What this software does is run the UNIX repair processes that are normally done by UNIX in the middle of the night. But, that might not always happen, especially if you turn your computer off every night. Plus, it can do some other operations that are not normally done (such as deleting the computer’s cashes).

Suggested uses: Download and open Tahoe Cache Cleaner. (With a non-licensed version, you have to wait something like 10 seconds for it to open.) Select the Maintenance tab and check the first five options. If you have a relatively small hard drive, it’s OK to also check the “Repair Permissions.” If you have a lot of stuff in a large HD (1 TB size), it’s probably not worth it as this takes many hours to process and seldome finds anything to fix. Click the “Run” button. It won’t take long. You may have to restart.

The other thing you might try is to click on the Cache Cleaning tab and run Medium Cleaning on all three Caches (Local, System, and All Users). You will probably have to restart after this as well.

I cannot promise this will solve your problem, but it’s worth it to verify if your OS is affecting things. If not, than there is the last option:

    (D) download the Adobe Cleaner application, and clear out all of your Adobe Applications as there very well may be an issue when they were installed. After this is run, restart your computer and redownload your Adobe applications.

Over the years, I have done all of these things. It can be mildly painful to just plain painful with your time. But, when YOUR having an issue that is not common, it’s probably not the software.

    Best of luck!

I’ve made the decision to move on and away from Adobe crap. If I need to clean software on a brand new device or have to troubleshoot it because there are known issues (documented on the Adobe website, then software is crap, period. I have zero problems with any other third-party software on my devices but there’s always something with Adobe. Thanks though.

    Hello @mike_v_freelancer,

I hope you are doing well, and we're sorry for the trouble you had with Adobe apps.

I can assist you with the Acrobat DC issue and suggest troubleshooting steps. For Lightroom, you may connect to the Lightroom community team, and they can assist you further.

Could you please share more details about the Acrobat? Is it crashing during launch, or while using any tools, or viewing PDF files? What macOS version and Mac model/chip are involved? (e.g., macOS Sonoma 14.x on M1/M2/M3, Intel, etc.). What have you already tried? (A) Reinstall app, (B) Acrobat Cleaner Tool, (C) Safe Mode / new user profile, (D) none of these?

Please try the suggestions from the following help article and let us know if you still experience any issues with Acrobat: https://adobe.ly/4ykQax7

Let us know how it goes, and share your findings.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.
