Why can't I drag thumbnails into window explorer any more?

    Correct answer Anand Sri Bhattacharya

    Hi there!

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out and sharing the video. We're sorry for the trouble you had.

Could you please share more details about the issue?

What is the version of Adobe Acrobat installed? Check from Help > About Adobe Acrobat (from the video, it seems like you are on the old UI of Acrobat)

Is it happening with the specific PDF file shown in the video, or with all the PDFs? Have you tried a different version of the PDF file?

From the video, it seems like you are moving the thumbnails to a network drive(please correct if this is not the case). Have you tried moving it to the local drive, like the desktop or documents?

Is it a personal computer, or an IT-managed machine? What is the version of the OS installed? What happens when the prompt shows to 'save as' the page from the PDF file?

Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: 26.001.21771, Planned update, Aug 01, 2026. Check for any pending updates by navigating to Menu > Help> Check for Updates. Install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again.

For testing purposes, go to File > Preferences > Security (Enhanced) and temporarily untick "Enable Protected Mode at startup", then restart and retry (re-enable the security settings afterwards).

    Suggestions:

    1. Extract: All tools (New UI) > Organise pages > select your pages (or type the range) > Extract. Tick "Extract pages as separate files" if you want one PDF per page, then save to your folder. This is the direct replacement for what you were doing.

    2. Split (best when chopping a long file into many pieces at once): All tools > Organise pages > Split > set "Split by" > Output Options to pick the target folder > Split. Acrobat writes the files straight into that folder.

Let us know how it goes, and share your observations. Please reach out if you need any assistance.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.

Thanks Anand! This solution did the trick ---> untick "Enable Protected Mode at startup", then restart and retry (re-enable the security settings afterwards).
