Question

Why do I get slower and more sluggish performance with each new update?

I'm running Acrobat Pro version 2026.002.21996 and have noticed a significant decline in performance over the last several releases. Acrobat feels progressively more sluggish with each update compared to how responsive it was a few versions ago.

The delays are most noticeable when navigating the application. For example, when switching between open PDF tabs, it often takes 1-2 seconds before the selected document fully renders. Similarly, clicking the Home button results in a noticeable delay before the Home page appears. These delays occur throughout the day and make the application feel unresponsive compared to previous versions.

Due to corporate policy restrictions, I have Protected Mode disabled and cannot use Acrobat's cloud sharing or upload features from within the desktop application when on. I would like to know whether there are settings, features, or recent changes that could be causing this performance degradation and what can be done to restore the faster, more responsive experience that Acrobat previously provided.

The issue is not limited to a specific PDF file and appears to be related to Acrobat's overall interface and rendering performance.

    Hello @brian_2604

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for sharing all the details. Sorry for the trouble you had.

Assuming you are on the latest build of Acrobat: Win: 26.002.21996, Mac: 26.002.22008, Planned update, Oct 06, 2026. Test a small PDF stored locally. Then test one of the affected files locally rather than from OneDrive, SharePoint, or a network drive. This helps determine whether the delay is document-specific or related to its location. Adobe currently documents a separate known issue involving slow Advanced Search on cloud documents, but not general Acrobat slowness.

On Windows, run Menu > Help > Repair installation, restart the computer, and test again. If third-party Acrobat plug-ins or endpoint-security software are installed, update them and retest. Protected Mode should remain enabled normally; disable it only briefly as a diagnostic test, then re-enable it immediately.

If the slowdown continues, please share:

    • Exact Acrobat version and Windows/macOS version

    • Computer model, processor, RAM, and GPU

    • Whether all PDFs are affected

    • Whether the delay occurs during launch, opening, scrolling, editing, printing, or another specific action

    • Whether the files are local, synced, or on a network drive

    • Also, collect the logs while reproducing the issue, and share them with us for further investigations. To collect the logs, please check this article: https://adobe.ly/4y4LnOO

I hope this helps, and please reach out if you need any assistance.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.

    Performed in this order.

    1. Four test files used. One set on OneDrive. The other set on a none synced folder (used the Music folder). Opened OneDrive set started snappy and then became more and more sluggish. Same happened to the other set. Symptoms include 1-2 second lag when switching tabs, 1-2 seconds lag when selecting tools, just general overall slow app performance. Seems like it degrades over time.
    2. Repaired the installation and then restarted.
    3. Tested same files and same symptoms surfaced.
    4. Ran Adobe Acrobat Diagnostics ID = aaece3b6-94c5-4e8b-890c-ec98ac5a3dfb

    • Delay ocurs after opening files and then navigating the interface. Seems to get worse the more i click around.
    • Test files were on local as well as copied to OneDrive

What type of system are you running it on? How much RAM and open storage space? With what operating system? Are you running it with other Adobe applications?

We’re happy to try and help, but we need more information to go on if you want us to help you.
