Why won't Adobe Standard DC create PDF from Word docx file?

Within Adobe I clicked Tools > Create PDF. I clicked "Select a file" and browsed for my Word (.docx) file, but it didn't appear in the folder when I opened it. Then I saw that .docx, nor any Word document file formats were listed at supported formats. I understand that it's supposed to be able to do this. The reason I tried it this way was because when I created a PDF from within Word (printing to Adobe PDF), none of the hyperlinks from my Word doc worked in the PDF.

So from within Word I then went to the Acrobat menu in the ribbon but when I clicked any of the icons an error message said that the supporting files were not available. That prompted me to uninstall and reinstall Acrobat. I did so with all the prompted reboots. Then I did the Acrobat web update. But I still cannot create a PDF from a Word doc using Acrobat. Further, now the Acrobat menu item doesn't appear in my Word program.

Would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks in advance.

Hello Sal,

Sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. As per the description above, you are not able to create a PDF file from a Word document using Acrobat Standard DC, Is that correct?

Please check for any pending updates of Acrobat from help>check for updates, reboot the machine after updating Acrobat and see if this brings any difference.

Also, repair the installation files of Acrobat from help>repair installation, reboot the machine after repair.

Refer and try the suggestion from the following Adobe article Troubleshoot Acrobat PDFMaker issues in Microsoft Office on Windows

Problem is that none of these solutions work for me.  It is only .docx files that will not turn into .pdf by means of Acrobat Pro DC.  In addition, all attempts to repair installation fail.  I have done a clean uninstall and then install, but won't work.   The only way of doing it is online but then you are limited to 12 documents.  Takes too long when you need to 40-120 documents.
