Word and Adobe compatibility

I have Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016 and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC purchased several months ago.  During download of Adobe, Office programs were automatically updated with Adobe ad-in.  Everything was working fine until yesterday.  When I try to close my Word document, the document closes, but the Word software does not close and it has to be closed through task manager or forced shut.  This issue was fixed by deleting Adobe as an add-in from the Word.  Excel and other Office software work fine with adobe add-in!  How can I keep the Adobe add-in the Eord and resolve the Word closing issue?

Posting here just to commisserate. My office installed Microsoft Office 2016 and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC on my computer and it has been a nightmare, owing, I have concluded, to serious compatibility issues between Office and the Adobe PDF reader. It made it impossible to work with large documents because of computer slowness, constant freezing (where the software would just be caught in a seemingly endless "processing" state (i.e., messages that Word or Acrobat were "not responding") and shutdowns and reboots too numerous to count. Our IT team was not much help. Eventually, what seemed to work was (1) upgrading me to the 64-bit Office suite and (2) disabling Acrobat add-ins and also running Adobe compatibility tests (a feature of the software). I only discovered the add-in issue after extensive research of my own on the Internet. This link was especially enlightning: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office/troubleshoot/third-party-add-ins/incompatibilities-between-office-and-adobe

So,at least for the time being, while it seems to work, I have been clicking on "no" every time a message pops up asking me if I want to ree-enable the Adobe add-ins.

Does anyone have any recent experience with this or know of any tips or helpful resources regarding this issue?
