.xmp file extensions no longer saving after update in Acrobat DC

After updatine to new Acrobat, when I save metadata templates the file name no longer apends ".xmp".   Why?  Does it work differently?  Should/can I add it?  I'm not sure how this effects funstionality, but it confuses my Mac Sonoma 14.2.1 finder and .xmp file library.
