I've been learning about art both fine art and contemporary art in my first semester in college. Now what is contemporary art for you?

We know we're getting old when we sing along with elevator music .

Although J. M. W. Turner lived in the mid-1800s before the impressionists movement, I think he's very contemporary.

The bulk of his work can be seen at the Tate Museum in London.  Last year,  The Tate loaned their Turner collection to The Getty Institute in Los Angeles.   The L.A. exhibit was a big hit.  So from where I sit, contemporary art need not be 'temporary', 'retro', 'antiquated' or 'boring' unless the artist had nothing much to say.

Whatever kids k-12 hate... I've never met a kid who likes contemporary art. I love it. If they think they can do it better - it's contemporary art!

lol... 'Contemporary' is a relative term; emphasis on the 'temporary'.

That said; considering that all my 'contemporary' music is now on the oldies stations, my idea of contemporary art would these days probably be called something like 'retro', 'antiquated', 'boring', or 'What is that old junk?'.
