Can't open PSD sample files that Adobe provided as part of a tutorial

Hello

I get "how To" instructional emails from Adobe and recently got one on how to blend two images in PS. I wanted to learn how to do this and so I downloaded the sample files that were provided by Adobe (both .psd files). But when I tried to open them up in PS, it gave me a message saying that PS "could not open the clipboard because PS didn't recognize this type of file". I don't get it. THe files were from Adobe and were .psd files. I updated PS just in case, but it still would not open these files. PS works fine otherwise. I can move images from Lightroom etc. What am I missing? Is there some setting that needs to be changed? thanks in advance

You should be very weary of untrusted files sent as email attachments.  You don't know who ACTUALLY sent them or what malicious content they could potentially contain.  RUN AWAY!
