Content Fragment Model - Custom Datatypes [AEM]

I am trying to create a custom datatype within a Content Fragment Model for colorpicker

I followed the steps given in the following document -

https://blogs.perficient.com/2020/10/20/adding-a-color-picker-to-the-aem-content-fragment-model-editor/

I do see the color picker in the CFM but loads empty set of properties for the colorpicker -

Error logs show -

com.adobe.cq.dam.cfm.ui.impl.extras.DataTypeConfigImpl Provided meta type colorfield is not recognized as a valid type in the configuration resource /mnt/overlay/settings/dam/cfm/models/formbuilderconfig/datatypes

Are there any additional steps needed while adding custom datatypes and do we have a good set of documentation listing down the steps?

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post if it helps you get responses.
