Gopher Holes Galore!!!

They're like mysterious aliens that suddenly invade your lawn & garden and indiscriminately destroy established plants at their roots.  I never had a gopher problem when I lived in the city.  Neighborhood cats took of that.  But not so in the suburbs.

We don't have outdoor cats here because coyotes eat them.  Without any natural predators to keep the gophers away,  these subterranean pests are running amok.  The question is how do I get rid of them?  My mint crop isn't stopping them. They burrow right through it like it wasn't there.

Anyone have experience with eradicating gophers?   I'm all ears.

They are hard to eliminate. Any plants you want protected should be planted in a underground wire cage. Traps work a little, but not very well. There are some plants that repel gophers. Poison is the very last option, as it will kill most things that eats the gopher. I used it only once, in our front yard, and very sparingly. I had one gopher, and nipped it before it became a big problem. We had a lot of them on our back hill. I didn't bother with them. We had foxes that came by, and tried to catch them.

Yeah, poison is a last resort.  Wire cages are too late now. Everything is already in the ground.  We have a frost warning for tonight.  If it gets cold enough, maybe they'll freeze.
