i want to use this as study the phonology. i do not know whether i can transcribe my sound file via this software or not?

i find that in Adobe, there is a software called cooledit?  so i am thinking about this. 

Additional question:Yesterday i just found that praat can be used to analysis the phonology, i just do not know why, i can record the sound via that software. But if i want record the sound in my iphone and then i try to open it in the praat, even though i change lots of the format, mp4, wav, it is still cannot be opened in the software.
