How is the technology sector doing and why should those financial numbers concern creative professionals? This is the time of year when the world’s big suppliers of the tools, which creative professionals depend on, report on how things are going financially. Those reports primarily focus on the October 1 - December 31 quarter and look at how that compares to the previous period. The bellwether has become Apple, which last week reported that revenues were up around 13%. But how were unit sales? Apple sold 1% more iPads and that represented a 5% iPad revenue rise. That tells us people want more powerful iPads. Similarly, iPhone revenues were up 13%, but there were 1% few units sold. That tells us more powerful iPhones are the trend, but we don’t know what we’re supposed to learn from a lesser demand. Are the iPhones people already have lasting longer? We have heard such speculation, but it’s difficult to figure what that really means. Mac sales don’t look great: revenues and units are dow
Friends in the UK were talking about how expensive CC is, and the numbers seemed wrong. But I checked, and at least in the UK and Europe the prices seem to be miscalculated.Taking the UK, annually paying for CC is $50 here, which ought to be £35. But they have VAT at 20%, making it be £42. Why is it they are being asked £50?

Not really a big deal, but paint me confused. Someone from the mods misclicked?
Honestly, I love me some Dillard's, but they've been going a little crazy with the Photoshop. I first noticed it when many of the models regularly had flat knees. But what I saw today is even weirder. Dillard's is removing the arch of the foot in their pictures of shoes. This poor model has the worst case of flat feet ever Antonio Melani Lynnette Ankle Strap and Buckle Wedges | Dillards. I wouldn't want these shoes if they did that to my feet! What repeat offenders have you seen?
Not so much a forum question, but I can't find anywhere else to send a message. I just wanted to thank Adobe for the effort put into the Dawn and Dusk sessions at BETT last week. I got to three of them and thoroughly enjoyed and was educated by them. The only disappointing thing was how few came to some of the sessions, but this may have helped make it more enjoyable as any assistance I needed was swiftly given. It was good to get a sense that the people who helped write some of the programs were there. Please keep running these - one request, on the Saturday as well next year? So please pass on my thanks to all concerned as I found the sessions very worthwhile.
Terri, seeing as you have raised the subject, how is it even remotely viable that after so many American celebrities and politicians have been sacked or forced to resign over claims of sexual harassment, and yet Trump, who bragged about his own blatant contemptible behavior with women, is still the President of the United States? I can see that the GOP wants to hang on to power at any cost, but at what point does their ever decreasing credibility make their position no longer tenable?
Read this, read that, text here, text there, text everywhere! Why can't my computer just talk to me? I tickle it's keys, I dust it off, I hug it before I go to bed, I replace it's innards when it's not feeling well, the least it could do is TALK TO ME!
Hey fellow Adobe users...I've recently finished my first documentary. I made it with Abode Premiere Pro and Photoshop. I had fun learning the ins and outs of the programs and am pleased that I can now make some more documentaries with these Adobe products. Come check out the documentary, if you're into learning about how reality works. There's a quick trailer and if you scroll down a 6 min. free promo. Thanks Adobe for your products https://www.reelhouse.org/codes/apollo
I am working with low Rez photos. I need them 300 dpi and at least 8” large. Is there a pixel dimension that I can request they use that would get me what I need? I don’t do enough photography to address this. And most photographers I ask don’t do printed work so they don’t know. Any ideas?
I need a new computer and I need some advice about what to get in a computer. Please do not reply if you’re not familiar any of these products and the computer resources they use.I have had some friends say that it is all in the graphics processor you get and others says its computer processor and memory. I need someone that really knows what they’re talking about and uses these programs to offer advice.First off, I do not want and Apple, I want a PC and I want Windows 7 professional.I need a computer that will handle running these products, Adobe photoshop, Illistrator, Indesign, Acrobat, word, and excel. I will have three or four of these products open at the same time. I need a machine that will be able to handle a majority of these products open at the same time and not be slow or sluggish. I would rather it be a laptop so that I can travel with it but I might consider a desktop.I currently have a laptop that works with this but when I get into some real intensive work on Photshop
Recent security concerns make us think that everyone is rushing to get the latest operating system (OS) upgrade, but that’s hardly the case. That surprised us. Between Apple and Microsoft, we sometimes see new versions released as fast as every week or two, when security issues exist. There was a time when Mac owners rushed out and adopted the latest OS. By year’s end, StatCounter was reporting that worldwide, 26.42% of Mac users adopted the High Sierra (10.13) and 29.61% were back on the previous version, Sierra (10.12), with 20.64% on El Capitan (10.11). That tells us that 76.67% of the Macs in the world, according to StatCounter, have bought into an OS update since September 2015.But, that’s the whole wide world. How about North America? Here on Apple’s home turf, it’s actually a little less: 75.94% with quite a few less for High Sierra: 23.15%.Okay. That’s Mac. How about Windows 10? That was released a few weeks before macOS El Capitan, in 2015. Worldwide, by year’s end, 41.69% of W

As Web Developers when will we cry out about Adobe's continued effort to devalue the profession we have taken years to learn and perfect. After all it was all of us that made Adobe the success it is today. With its continued offerings like Muse and now Spark that basically tout the effortless creation of point and click, drag and drop, web content and now video production they are undercutting the hand that feeds them.We have all seen our hourly rates drop because of all the "create a website in minute with no coding" BS that make our customers think creating a website is no big deal that they can have their secretaries crank out a website in a day and Adobe is promoting this misconception.I would think that Adobe would have a little more respect for the industry that put them were they are today.JLS
Is there something Apple is cooking up with all that Mac “Pro” hardware in the stores or in the pipeline? Some people will tell you that that macOS Server died off years ago. But as Mark Twain quipped, after a newspaper ran his obituary, “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.” The latest version of macOS Server, 5.4, shipped September 25, 2017: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-server/id883878097?mt=12 But, unlike the days when Apple had server hardware, the market for Server 5.4 has been greatly diminished, at least for now.For many highly secure, high-end, server farms, HP owns the market. Yes, there are other players in that game, too. But, here’s the problem, which weighs on the mind of IT people: hacking. We do not profess to be deep into the details of the IT engineering stratosphere. We used to be. Today, our side of things is more on the executive level. We have broader decisions to make about content delivery. What we do share with IT engineers are those security c

I've exchanged the odd PM about books we are reading with other forum regulars, and I thought it might be useful to start an ongoing thread. I've never been without a book since I was a teenager, although nowadays, I pretty much exclusivity listen to audio books on my phone. What prompted me to start this thread now, was having just finished 'To Kill a President' by Guardian journalist Johnathon Freedland, who writes fiction under the pseudonym Sam Bourne. I had no idea what I was getting into when I started the book, but while it is fiction, it turned out to be an obvious depiction of Donald Trump and his inner circle of cronies. The Presidents Chief of Staff sounds very like Steve Bannon, right down to the scary, and totally out there, agenda. At one point they engineer an event that allows them to revoke the Constitution on the grounds that it gets in the way of public safety. The same event drives an Executive Order compelling media outlets to be licen
