Photo Lighting: Incandescent Light Bulb Ban Begins

Beginning today, no more incandescent light bulbs will be sold in the United States.

LEDs are replacing Edison's glowing orbs, in use since the late 1800s. Going forward, only energy efficient lighting (45 lumens per watt) will be sold nationally.

Bulbs that go inside ovens & bug lights are exempt. But most if not all other incandescents will struggle to meet the new efficiency standards, and the same goes for a more recent generation of halogen lights.

Europe is a step ahead, having phased out incandescent lights in 2012.

Maybe the next thing the US will decide to ban will be asbestos. It's still legal and it's still killing people.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/15/opinion/asbestos-epa-trump.html

"Asbestos Kills Nearly 40,000 Americans a Year. Ban It. The United States should follow other countries and protect its citizens from the deadly chemical, write two former E.P.A. administrators."

Asbest is still legal in USA? Wow.

Since 1994 it has been prohibited in the Netherlands to trade and use asbestos because working with asbestos is dangerous and unhealthy.

I guess I'll need to get a new ceiling fan for my bedroom. I've tried all sorts of LED bulbs in it, and theh all flicker.

Yeah.  Old light fixtures don't always play nice with newer high efficiency bulbs.

We have some old flourescent rod lights in the garage that are starting to flicker badly.  I fear I won't find replacements now and may have to replace the whole set-up with LEDs. 😓

Incandescent light bulbs are those with a filament inside it.

They use more electricity than LED ones - or energy-saving, which are also not good these days.

In order to cut down on the use of electricity we should go back to using candles and oil lamps as a light source.😊

Forgot what they looked like 😉

Since 2012 production has stopped in our country.
