Question

Something we all can relate to part 2

The new forum needs a little bit of humor to release the tension of the changeover, so I've started part 2 of the old thread so that we don't have to keep scrollong to the end of the old thread.

If it gets too long before the "go to the latest reply" issue is resolved, I can lock this thread and link to a part 3 thread.

What do you think?

    The toffee was a bit stale, however.

    I was researching historic candy packaging and found this fellow circa 1914. The cleanup took me nearly three hours.

    Very nicely cleaned up, @J E L ! Was it for work or for "fun" ?

    Cats are stealth creatures that sometimes disappear into their surroundings allowing them to "hide in plain sight."

    Can you spot the cat in each of these photographs?

    For math nerds only: solve carefully!

    230 - 220 x 1/2 =

    Most people won't believe it,

    but the answer is 5!

    Have any math nerds figured out why the answer is 5!

    Yes, but it's annoying.

    Given the spacing on the 1 / 2, I'd say it should be expressed as

    [(230 - 220) x 1] ÷ 2

    230 - 220 = 10

    10 x 1 = 10

    10 ÷ 2 = 5

    7 x 13 = 28

    ==========

    Put on your thinking caps.  Here's another fuzzy math problem for you.

    60 ÷ 5(7 - 5) = ?

    Is the correct answer 6 or 24; why?

    6.  The order of operations dictates the parenthesis is done first, then the multiplication, then the division.

    HINT:  Try it in Google Calculator.

    ============

    SPOILER ALERT:

    ============

    The modern order of operations is parenthetical statement first.

    Then division statement.

    Then multiplication.

    60 ÷ 5 = 12

    *(2)

    = 24

    Like I said, it's a fuzzy math problem.

    To make it less fuzzy, it should be expressed like this which is how Google Calculator infers it.

    (60 ÷ 5)(7 - 5) =24

    Or your way:

    60 ÷ (5(7 - 5) = 6

    Lots of fun, huh!
