I had a USB flash drive I wasn't using to I followed the instructions to create a recovery drive

 

It takes a LONG time (I didn't time it, but about 20 minutes) and used 7 gigabytes on the flash drive

 

I'm not sure why the instructions say a 16 gigabyte drive, so I will GUESS that is for temp files
