Type1 / postscript fonts not showing up in CC applications

Type 1 / postscript fonts are not available in my CC applications (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) - and they ARE available in the CS5 & CS6 versions of the same apps. The only fonts that are available are True Type & Open Type fonts.

Mac OS X 10.8.4, 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM

Extensis Suitcase Fusion 5 (16.0.2)

I've cleaned the font cashes, re-installed apps and Suitcase ...

Hope some one can point me in the right direction - thanks in advance!

Same exact problem. My system is clean as can be: clean Mavericks install, fresh FontExplorer install, all fonts checked and in working order, new CC apps (which I had to uninstall and reinstall after InDesign stopped working after being updated). Photoshop cannot call fonts up or open them up. InDesign won't open them either, it wants to default to the !@#$%& Adobe Typekit which I suspect is the problem here, since it's now integrated with CC.

I found one piece of info: different Photoshop file types may react differently with calling up fonts. When I resaved my TIFFs as PSDs the PSDs could open the fonts with no problems. Not a great workaround in all instances, but helpful in the short term since hand activating fonts is pure drudgery.

I'm having exactly the same problem: PostScript and TrueType fonts activated in Suitcase don't show up in the InDesign and Illustrator font menus.

If I activate the PostScript, TrueType and OpenType versions of the same typeface, only the OT version shows in the InDesign menu. PostScript and TrueType fonts refuse to show up. Opening files with text set in non-System PS or TT fonts brings up a missing fonts dialogue, whether the fonts are activated or not.

Activated PS and TT fonts do show up as active in System Profiler.

This happens with both Extensis Suitcase Fusion 5 and Linotype Font Explorer, incidentally. (I uninstalled Font Explorer and switched back to Suitcase, in case it was the font management software causing the problem. Clearly not.)

I've cleaned out the font caches several times, using both Font Doctor and Onyx.

This seems to have started happening only very recently. Has there been a CC update that's caused this?

    Help!

I am having the same problem. Now that I'm on CC I can't load fonts in PS. They are activted in Suitcase 5, I can get them to show up in InDesign, but not in PS. Also a designer, I can't possibly be moving thousands of fonts around. Did not have this problem in CS5. Generally, do not like CC at all. Many problems and quirks that are really annoying. On Mac OS 10.7.5. Really, incredibly, frustrating.

Well, at least I know I'm not completely insane nor alone.

I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, deleting ... to no avail. Spent over an hour on the phone getting passed from one person to another that barely spoke english or understood at all what the issue was. This is clearly an issue with the newest CC applications handle ps fonts - but my post got moved to the Adobe Type forum? My fonts are fine, are installed properly and work with ALL my apps EXCEPT Creative Cloud apps. Wether I use Suitcase Fusion or not the problem is the same.

We have little choice - they take our $ but can't provide the "Ask Our Experts 24-7" support promised. It's been over a week now and I can't even get a simple yes or no question answered. It's very frustrating but I have work to do, and there are only so many hours in the day.

My work around has been to use TimeMachine - go back the the CS6 apps - not use the CC apps until Adobe get's their act together and admits there is an issue, and provides a solution.

Peace out - good luck one and all.

    Dave,

I am the QE guy in the type group and have taken a look at this issue. Unfortunately, I am unable to reproduce it so far, but with several reports, plainly *something* is going on.

I started with 10.8.4 with CS6 installed only. Installed a few Type 1 fonts in /Library/Fonts and checked their functionality in both Word and InDesign CS6. I then installed InDesign CC. The Type 1 fonts list in the font menu and work in InDesign CC.

Since so many of the earlier messages mentioned Suitcase, I then installed Suitcase Fusion 5. Note that no version of Suitcase had ever been installed on this OS before. The Type 1 fonts showed up in the preview pane of Suitcase. Launched InDesign CC; fonts showed in the menu and worked. Added another Type 1 font using Suitcase, this time from a new location. Again, font showed up in font menu and worked.

We contacted someone we know at Extensis to see if they had heard anything. They have your report and it's on their radar, but not too much else at this point.

Whatever is going on here is affecting *some* people, but apparently not everyone; the uproar would have been deafening in that case. This isnt' so much an intermittent issue as it seems like an 'edge case' affecting a subset of users. Things like this are difficult to track down. The first step is being able to reproduce an issue and if we can't do that, our choices are limited. We will continue to look into this.

We've copied our tech support and a few others that we could think of. One of them came back with this request:

The cache files that ID CC's CoolType creates might give us clues about the problem (Type 1 fonts show up in CS6 apps but not in the CC versions of the apps.), if the customers can send them when they are still seeing the problem.

    For ID, they are:

    /Users/(username)/Library/Caches/Adobe\ InDesign/Version\ 9.0/en_US/TypeSupport/AdobeFnt_OSFonts.lst

    /Users/(username)/Library/Caches/Adobe\ InDesign/Version\ 9.0/en_US/TypeSupport/AdobeFnt_CommonFonts.lst

    For Photoshop, they are:

    /Users/(username)/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Adobe\ Photoshop\ CC/CT\ Font\ Cache/AdobeFnt_CommonFonts.lst

    /Users/(username)/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Adobe\ Photoshop\ CC/CT\ Font\ Cache/AdobeFnt_OSFonts.lst

Moving this discussion to the Adobe Type forum.

Daveb45 are the fonts currently installed in your Library/Fonts folder?  If not are you relying on Suitcase to enable the fonts?  If so have you contacted Suitcase to ensure that you have the current version of their Font management software and there are no conflicts?

Thanks for your reply Jeff. Yes - Suitcase is managing the fonts and is up-to-date.

All of my Adobe apps work fine and have access to any fonts that are enabled EXCEPT the Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) versions. It's as if the CC apps are looking elseware for the fonts or a pereference file (that affects them all) is corrupt.

I have searched the Extensis forums and have posted a topic in there as well. No one else is reporting the same issue. I'm attaching 2 screen grabs of the font menu in InDesign - one from CS5.5 and one from CC. Both apps are running at the same time - started up right after the font cashes have been cleared and the computer restarted.

Daveb45 for your next step I would recommend temporarily disabling Suitcase, and any associated plug-ins, and confirm that the font is seen in the CC apps when located in the Library/Fonts folder.

If it still is not visible can you provide more details regarding the font?  The font name and the font foundry would be two important elements.
