Update available: ATM, OpenType & AdobePS 8.8

ATM 4.6.1 Deluxe and 4.6.2 Light have an incompatibility with AdobePS 8.8.0 preventing the use of OpenType fonts. There is an ATM updater available that will update ATM to 4.6.1a or 4.6.2a, which resolves the problem. The updater is available on the Adobe downloads page at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/main.html

If you are on an older OS that does not support ATM 4.6.1 or later, and you require OpenType OTF support, you should continue to use AdobePS 8.7.3.

    Carol,

ATM Lite or Deluxe? Mac OS 9.x.x? Which versions? If Deluxe, you cannot run it simultaneously with another font manager. If Mac OS 9.0.x, you should be running Mac OS 9.2.2. Are your fonts properly installed? How did you install ATM and Suitcase?

But I've forgotten a lot of the issues as OS 9/ATM are fairly ancient history and are not supported by either Adobe or Apple. Can you upgrade to OS X?

HELP>>>>I had to do a clean install on my OS 9. Everything was fine except my type was bitmapped in Quark due to not having put my ATM back. When I added ATM and suitcase to my extensions folder, it renders the printer unreadable and does let me print. So I have just removed the ATM and suitcase and now can print, but what can do I do so that ATM does not conflict with the printing operation? Help is greatly aoporeciated..

    You're welcome, Chris.

BTW, there are some applications like Live Picture and Fontographer that run fine in Mac OS 9.2.2 but not in Classic under OS X, regardless of how you install them.

Thanks Ramón, I was able to install on another machine using OS 9 and then do a manual install. It's the way I seem to have to install many OS 9 applications on the G5.

I've checked for any virus software that might be keeping me from installing but am having no luck. I would be interested to know if others have had similar problems.

    Chris,

I was merely suggesting Merrily try it; I haven't done it myself. Some folks apparently are successful in running the installer in Classic under OS X, but since she was having problems, I thought it was worth a try. Basically, I'd copy the ATM control panel and put it in the Control Panels folder, but that's my guess. I' m using ATM Deluxe and only used ATM Light during a brief period when I was using Suitcase 10 because I was also running OS X. Since I deleted OS X and got rid of Suitcase, I reverted to ATM Deluxe and ATR. I really don't remember much about ATM Light.

The problem is that Adobe stopped developing and supporting ATM when Apple was at Mac OS 9.1. I don't think Adobe at that time could have foreseen machines that would not boot into OS 9.x. Like I said, some folks are succesfull in running the installer in Classic under OS X, while others are not.

After reading Marrily's replies, I too am confused. I am not able to auto-install ATM Light 4.6.2 on my G5 directly into Classic, yet she says she was able to do this. I had the same issue on my laptop but was able to install by rebooting in OS9, but, alas, not an option with this machine. Ramón, you say she needed to instal ATM Light manually into the OS9 System Folder; how would one do this? And is this a way to get around other software that will not install in Classic? It's something I find myself running into with a machine that will not boot in OS9.

    Thanks,

    Thanks Ramón,

I will try to isolate the font(s) in question. Thanks for all your help!
