Update available: ATM, OpenType & AdobePS 8.8

ATM 4.6.1 Deluxe and 4.6.2 Light have an incompatibility with AdobePS 8.8.0 preventing the use of OpenType fonts. There is an ATM updater available that will update ATM to 4.6.1a or 4.6.2a, which resolves the problem. The updater is available on the Adobe downloads page at http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/main.html

If you are on an older OS that does not support ATM 4.6.1 or later, and you require OpenType OTF support, you should continue to use AdobePS 8.7.3.

    Merrily,

Adobe stopped developing and supporting ATM when Apple was at Mac OS 9.1.

ATM Light 4.6.2 and/or 4.6.2a work fine in Mac OS 9.2.2.

There are no later versions, nor will there be any in the future.

    ====

That being said, if your only problem is that you get the message
    >ATM was not able to activate one or more OpenType fonts in your Fonts folder because of an error

then it's highly likely that the fonts in question are corrupted or otherwise damaged. Try to see which font or fonts did not get activated.

The reason I had mentioned your Extensions folder was just to make sure that the ATM control panel had not been installed there by error.

It does not appear that I have an ATM extension installed. Reading the Read Me file, it makes no mention of installing one, only the control panel and a folder in the System Preferences folder. One thing I did notice however is that the ATM Lite version 4.6.2 is for Mac OS 9.1 running in the Classic environment. We are running 9.2.2 in Classic. Could that be part of the problem? Or is the updater that I installed the patch for the newer OS? There was no Read Me file installed with the patch.

    Merrily,

I don't know what the installer installed where, but since ATM Light was meant to be installed in straight, native OS 9.x, I have no way of telling for sure how the installer behaves in Classic under OS X. In theory, it should work, but then there are many things that work perfectly well in native OS 9 but not in Classic under OS X. Check both the Control Panels folder and your Extensions folder to see if you have the ATM extension as well as the control panel for ATM.

    Thank you both for responding.

I'm a bit confused. I did use the automatic installer and the ATM 4.6.2a control panel was installed in the Control Panels in my System Folder-the one labeled with the 9 (I assume this is the Classic System Folder).

Isn't that where the ATM 4.6.2a control panel should be? Did it install other files in incorrect places that I need to manually drag to the Classic system folder?

    Merrily,

Neil is absolutely right. Since your G5 cannot boot into OS 9.x, you'll need to install ATM Light manually into your Classic System Folder. The installer won't work properly in Classic, so you can't use the installer on your computer at all.

    Merrily,

Basically, ATM (Lite or Deluxe) is NOT compatible with Mac OS X. ATM Lite only works in Classic mode or native Mac OS 9. ATM Lite is a font rasterizer, not a font manager. Therefore it cannot activate or deactivate fonts. Only ATM Deluxe can manage fonts, and it works only under native Mac OS 9.x.

I believe that ATM Light has to be installed under Mac OS 9. If you read the information that comes with Suitcase, you will see that if you are using MenuFonts, its name must be modified so that it loads before ATM Light.

    I hope this helps.

We have a new G5 1.6 ghz computer running Panther with Suitcase X1 installed. I have downloaded ATM 4.6.2 installer and the 4.6.2a patch and installed them both. However, whenever I open a document in Classic environment, I get the following message:

ATM was not able to activate one or more OpenType fonts in your Fonts folder because of an error.

Do I need to reinstall ATM Lite, or is this a function of a conflict with Suitcase or something else?

    Please advise. Thanks!

In trying to update my ATM Deluxe 4.6, I downloaded the patch but when run, it does not recognize the file installed.
