PDF looks blurry after scanning – any way to improve clarity in Acrobat? Post:

Hi everyone,

I recently scanned a few ID and document pages using my phone, but when I open the PDF in Acrobat, some text looks slightly blurry and not very sharp. I’m trying to make the document clearer for online submission and verification purposes.

I already tried rescanning with better lighting, but the quality still doesn’t look as clean as expected after saving as PDF. Is there any setting in Acrobat that can improve scan quality, sharpen text, or make documents look clearer without affecting readability?

Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

    Hi @Mick Judo,

Thank you for reaching out! This is a common experience when scanning documents via phone, and there are a few things you can try directly within Acrobat and Adobe Scan to improve clarity.

    Within Adobe Acrobat:

    1. Enhance Scans Tool: Go to Tools > Enhance Scans > Enhance Document. This automatically sharpens text, improves contrast, and cleans up backgrounds on scanned pages.
    2. OCR (Recognize Text): Go to Tools > Enhance Scans > Recognize Text > In This File. This converts scanned text into selectable, searchable text and often improves visual sharpness of the output.
    3. Adjust after OCR: After running Recognize Text, try Tools > Enhance Scans > Enhance Document again for an additional cleanup pass.

If you're using Adobe Scan (Mobile App):

    • Ensure the camera lenses don't have smudges.
    • Hold your phone steady before tapping on scan.
    • After scanning, use the Clean Up tool within the app before saving as PDF
    • Make sure Auto Boundary Detection is enabled for proper page alignment
    • Use the Correct Distortion option if the page appears warped

    General Tips:

    • Scan in good, even lighting and keep the phone as parallel to the document as possible
    • Avoid shadows falling across the document
    • Ensure the document is flat (use a book scanner mode if available)

To help us assist further, could you share:

    • Are you using Adobe Scan or another app to scan?
    • Which version of Acrobat are you using (desktop or mobile)?
    • What type of document is it (printed text, handwritten, photo ID)?

Hope this helps get your document submission-ready!

    Hi Tariq,

Thanks for the detailed suggestions. I’m using scanned ID documents for online verification, so clarity is really important. I’ll try the Enhance Document and Recognize Text (OCR) options you mentioned and see if that improves the sharpness.

I scanned the files using my phone and opened them in Acrobat desktop, so maybe the scan quality dropped during saving. I’ll test a few settings and update here if it works. Appreciate the help!
