Hi!
We've written a Program, which creates Print- and OnScreen-PDFs of our Online-Catalog sites. This Program uses AH Formatter to create the PDF. When it comes to creating a Print-PDF, AH Formatter also needs a Distiller (like Adobe Distiller, which comes with - I believe - Adobe Acrobat)
We have Adobe CS6 licensed and install Adobe Acrobat X Pro and Adobe Distiller X from the CS6 ISO on our Windows Server 2012 R2, so our program can use this distiller to fulfill it's task.
Now, about once a month, Our Program throws the following error, when we're creating PDFs:
ErrorLevel: 2
ErrorCode: 16900
Cannot embed the image: file:///SomeFilePath/BulletB01.eps
Now this error comes from AH Formatter, but I know that it's because Distiller X has crashed, since a) an eps file is only used when we're creating a Print-PDF, and b) the Distiller cannot be opened anymore. As soon as I start the Distiller.exe, it crashes right away, without any error message and without writing anything into the eventlog. Also, when I restart the Server, Distiller still doesn't work. Only if I remove and install Adobe Acrobat again, it works (for again about a month) until it's crashing again.
As you can imagine, this is a real pain in the a, because this server is a webserver and can't just be restarted at any time, and it takes a lot of time to go through the process of remove and install this software.
I read that Distiller X is not a Server software. Then I googled for Distiller Server, and I found a program which isn't supported by Adobe anymore. So I gues I can't use this Distiller Server Program.
My Questions are:
- What causes this Problem with Adobe Distiller
- How can I solve this Problem without going to the restart/remove/install process
- What other Adobe Distiller Program can I use on my Server 2010 R2, preferably without buying something new?
thanks and Regards,
A desperate Sysadmin

The successor to Distiller Server is (or was) LiveCycle PDF Generator, PostScript edition. Adobe seem to have changed the name again, but so far as I know the product exists. Certainly, Acrobat is not for server use: not technically suitable and not licensed. It seems to be the case that you must buy something new.
