Audition 3.0: Crash when switching to multi-track and "Could not find supported audio device"

Hey friends,

I have been a user of Audition 3.0 for a long time now, with the occasional issue but nothing I couldn't fix.

Now I am really in trouble. Last week, I noticed that when I switched from Edit mode to Multi-track mode, none of the display would change, and nothing else would function properly until I closed and restarted the program. This has been frustrating me for two weeks now, so today I uninstalled and reinstalled Audition.

Big mistake. Now I cannot open Audition without seeing the message "Could not find supported audio device. Check device settings." There have been similar posts about this on this forum in the past, but none of them so far have worked for me. (I've also noticed that others have been having problems with multi-track; could this point to a larger issue with Audition 3.0?) I have been covering these forums but nothing has worked.

Please help, and sincerely,

One Distressed Audio Editor

I'm sorry to say, but the more things change about Windows 10, the less Audition 3 likes them. Now, I can only replay anything through my Sound Devices MixPre-D using it - it flatly refuses to record it, even with the correct ASIO driver.  And last time I checked it, it worked fine. Audition 3 was never intended to work with modern OS's, I'm afraid. And it's now a completely withdrawn product, and there is no support available at all. The only thing I can suggest is to remind you that there was a patch available, and if you re-install Audition, you should run the patch too, if you can - it flatly refused to load on this laptop. Amazingly, the patch is still available - look here: Audition 3 Patch

I wish I could be of more help, but it's getting harder and harder to suggest anything other than the patch, I'm afraid.

Thank you very much for your time, Steve. I saw that you had mentioned the 3.0 Patch on a different thread, so I downloaded it -- that and the ASIO driver. When I try to run the patch install, it always gets interrupted before I can finish the installation. And when I downloaded the ASIO driver, it doesn't appear under any of my device settings. Any chance you can help me locate the ASIO driver in my computer? (Long shot, I know.)

Barring both of these fixes, I guess I'll have to opt for a newer version of Audition. My company uses Adobe 5.1, too, but I'm not sure if Adobe has done away with attaching serial numbers to products so that they can be downloaded remotely and used without a current subscription. Do you know if this is the case?

A correctly installed ASIO driver should appear in the drivers list like this:

Audition 3 ASIO.JPG

No current Adobe software runs unless you have a current subscription to it initially. If you have it correctly installed though, you can run remotely for a while before it gets upset...
