Spry Menu with rollover slidelets

Hi,

I hope I can describe my problem so it's understandable - I'm not a native speaker of English. I am using Captivate 7.

I have a project with ca. 20 slides and would like to make a spry menu. The menu should in the end look more or less like this one (just bigger, of course): http://blog.entheosweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/spry_menus_fimg.jpg (just so you have an idea).

On one slide, I managed to create a menu the way I want it to be, and it works perfectly. I followed this tutorial: http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2011/09/creating-spry-menus-in-adobe-captivate-5-5-courses.html

So basically, I put roll-over slidelets on the button with the topic's name. They work with Advanced Actions, so that when I hover over the topic, the sub-topics appear and I can click on them to directly reach the right slides. Underneath everything, there's a big roll-over slidelet that makes everything disappear again (also using advanced actions).

I want to have this menu on every slide - I want the user to be able to jump from any slide directly to any other slide using this spry menu. The problem is: I can't just copy the menu because then the names of the buttons change and the Advanced Actions (set to work only with the "old" names) don't work anymore! This means, to make it work, I'd have to re-name all buttons on every single slide and then set new Advanced Actions for each slide to make them work. I can't put roll-over slidelets on Masterslides.

I think there must be an easier way to do this... But I don't get it. What am I doing wrong? Am I forgetting something? Does anyone have a good idea to solve this?

Looking forward to your responses

Saraa

What are you doing wrong?

From what I'm seeing, you are expecting to use Captivate as you would a Web Page tool. While I'm sure it's possible to build in some rudimentary behavior similar to a web site, Captivate is an eLearning tool and not a web site builder like Dreamweaver.

But that's just my take. I'm sure others will pop in.

Cheers... Rick

Yes... Probably you're right, Rick.

I just thought that perhaps there might be a nice way in Captivate to do something like this - I must say, I'm also new to Captivate and still finding out what is possible. Perhaps someone has an idea. Otherwise I'll think of something else.

Did you look at the TOC? You can group slides, and allow navigation using the TOC.

Some objects can be timed for the rest of the project, but that is not the case for rollover slidelets.

You didn't show the advanced action, maybe replacing it by a shared action (parameters are bit limited in CP7, better in CP8) could save you time. But new instances of any object will have a different ID.

Hi Lilybiri,

Thank you! I've actually decided to use the TOC. I didn't know that grouping slides was possible, but it works perfectly.

I have one question though, and perhaps you can help me to answer it:

The way I have it now, when you enter the module, the TOC is quite a big list and to make it smaller, you have to click on the names of the chapters. Is there a way to have it small by default and just showing the subitems by clicking on the chapter? I haven't been able to figure it out so far.

Have a nice weekend, everyone!

Go into the TOC Settings, you can collapse all chapters. User will have to click on the chapter title to expand it and see the slides.
