to those using SumTotal as your LMS

To those of you that use SumTotal as your LMS and Captivate as your authoring tool....can you please share with me some pros and cons. I'm told SumTotal owns Toolbook, but in comparison (other than price) Captivate seems to be able to do all if not the majority of the functions that Toolbook does. However, I'm concerned that Captivate might give me issues with compliance. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...and yes, I do understand this is a Captivate forum, so many of the answers I expect to get are for Captivate - which I guess I'm looking for, so that I can pull the trigger and purchase one of these authoring tools.
Thanks much in advance for your feedback and advice.

Hi,

Forget their toolbox - its not that flash. Captivate is ok for basic courses, but if you want some real creative freedom use Composica. Its a real winner.

Cheers,

ToolBook simulations are no where near as easy and effective as Captivate. Toolbook is not really a simulation suthoring tool in the way that Captivate is.

Captivate 3 works well on the TotalLMS, aslong as you are willing to play around with weighting scores etc on buttons to "trick" the LMS from marking the activity as complete before the learners done the course!

You can sign up for a trial period with SumTotal's LMS.
I am trying to gauge the compliance of Captivate myself but I haven't gotten very far since I get the following error when uploading SCORM 1.2:
Attribute: Schemalocation is undefined (when it's parsing the manifest file).

I'm pretty sure it's not the captivate file since this occurs on my quiz and a sample quiz from Andrew Chemey's article on "Output options in Captivate"

Still waiting for a good support response form SumTotal, so you may want to try the trial first. Best of luck - j
