Frame 9/Acrobat 9 PDF issues on Windows 7

New Here ,
Apr 14, 2010 Apr 14, 2010

Howdy:

I'm using Frame 9 and Acrobat 9 Pro on 64-bit Windows 7, and encountering what appears to be a bug.

When I initially open Frame and attempt to Save As PDF, I get the following error message:

"When you create a PostScript file you must rely on system fonts and use document fonts. Please go to the printer properties, "Adobe PDF Settings" page and turn OFF the option "Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts."

The problem: that setting isn't turned /on/, either in Frame or in the Adobe PDF printing preferences. So Frame is basically telling me to turn off a setting that isn't actually turned on in the first place.

This problem has persisted through a complete reinstallation of both Frame and Acrobat. The only way to get it to stop happening is by /activating/ the "Rely on system fonts only" setting, applying that setting, then going back in and deactivating it. Even then, the situation crops up as soon as I exit Frame and restart it.

Rgds,

Ashton

As a test, can you print to the Adobe PDF printer instead of doing "Save As", or does that trigger the same error?

Hi, Sheila:

Printing to the Adobe PDF printer does in fact work correctly, without the error. It appears it's a Save As PDF thing.

Good, I'm glad to hear there's at least a workaround. Adobe hasn't "officially blessed" either 64-bit or Win7, so there may not be a solution at this point.

Is there some way to let them know about this problem without paying $175 for "support"?

Thanks,

Ashton

An easier way to navigate to the page Arnis describes...

www.adobe.com/go/wish

I've had TCS project managers and engineers tell me this is the best way to express what you like and to get bugs fixed.

If you *do* post, I recommend you ask all your friends and network contacts to do the same (twitter, forum, blog, etc.) to do the same. The additional votes are the best way to push to the top (think Google search results...)

As always, kill 'em with kindness!

On Win7 x64 with FM8 and Acrobat 9 Pro, this resolved the issue for me:

1.       Click the Start menu, and then click Devices and Printers

2.       Right-click the Adobe PDF printer, then click Printing Preferences, and then deselect Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts

3.       Click OK

4.       Right-click the Adobe PDF printer, then click Printer Properties, then click the Advanced tab, and then click Printing Defaults

5.       On the Adobe PDF Settings tab, deselect Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts, and then click OK.

6.       On the Adobe PDF Properties dialog, click OK
