I needed to move our DVD copy of Adobe CS4 Design Premium to a new Windows 10 computer.
I uninstalled CS4 from the current old computer.
During the installation on the new system I had an issue activating our copy of CS4.
I contacted Adobe chat support.
Adobe support was unable to get me activated so eventually Adobe provided a new serial number
and a link to download a version of CS4 that will work with the new serial number.
I downloaded the two files for CS4.
Then I used "Programs and Features" to remove the DVD copy of CS4 I had first installed
Then I restarted the computer.
I then started the installation of the new downloaded CS4. New serial number worked fine.
Installation started and after several minutes I started getting installation errors.
The errors stated: "Installation of the following components has failed:
Adobe InDesign CS4
Adobe Illustrator CS4
Adobe Photoshop CS4
I got a few more similar errors. I had the option to "Quit" or "Continue". I choose Continue.
When the installation completed I got a "Done, with errors" screen stating the optional components
of the following products failed to install correctly:
Adobe InDesign CS4
Adobe Illustrator CS4
Adobe Photoshop CS4
Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64-bit)
Can someone please help me with this issue? thanks

I removed CS4 suite again using Control Panel. Then I went into the file system and deleted all the leftover Adobe folders. I rebooted the system and ran the setup by Right-click and run as administrator. The installation started and ran for several minutes then I got an error similar to the one I had gotten earlier except this time the error showed:
"Installation of the following components has failed:
Adobe Flash CS4"
I clicked Continue and the installation completed without any other errors.

That very old version is not really compatible with Win10
Two ideas that MAY work to install and/or run old programs in Windows 10
-RIGHT click the program icon or EXE and select a compatibility mode in the pop up option window
-or Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 to assign FULL Windows permissions may help... this says Encore, but is sometimes required for ALL Adobe programs (this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account) so follow the instructions, substituting the name and location of your specific program for Encore
-also https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/create-local-administrator-account-windows.html

Just to clear up any confusion from my question. Adobe CS4 will install and run successfully on Windows 10. See below. I have even successfully installed and used Adobe CS3 on Windows 10.
I completely and successfully installed Adobe CS4 (from DVD) but after completing the installation I was unable to activate using my serial number. That is the reason I had to contact Adobe and get a new serial number. That is also the reason I had to use the download links to download CS4 directly from Adobe.
So even thought CS4 can install and run fine on Windows 10 I am having trouble installing the downloaded version after installing and removing the DVD version. I think maybe there are some leftover components from the DVD install that might be causing the issue.
Thanks already for the help

I do not know if the cleaner works with that old version, but Adobe has a tool to help
Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems
