Photoshop 20.0.7 Update / Install Problems

New Here ,
Oct 24, 2019 Oct 24, 2019

I'm running Mac OS Catalina and was excited to see an update out today addressing some of the issues with Catalina. I have attempted numerous times to update through the Creative Cloud app. It will hang on either 92% or 97%. Each time I see it hang for around 10 minutes or so, I cancel and try again.

I have attempted this about 4 times so far until I thought maybe I'd try and uninstall and reinstall however now it won't even install! I keep getting "Installation Failed". Clicking more info says error code 153 and here are the details from that error:

Exit Code: 153
-------------------------------------- Summary --------------------------------------
 - 2 fatal error(s), 0 error(s), 0 warnings(s)

FATAL: Error (Code = 153) executing in command 'ChmodCommand' for package: 'AdobePhotoshop20-Core', version:20.0.7.87
FATAL: Error occurred in install of package (Name: AdobePhotoshop20-Core Version: 20.0.7.87). Error code: '153'
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have full admin access to my own machine, I have also tried giving Creative Cloud app "Full Disk Access" under the Security & Privacy settings but still no avail. I also see a "com.adobe.acc.installer.v2" in the list of applications for Full Disk Access.

UPDATE: I have also tried uninstalling EVERYTHING and reinstalling. I have followed the steps outlined here https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html to uninstall, reboot and run the cleaner tool. After reinstalling Creative Cloud, Photoshop still will not install and gives me the same error. I had to reinstall all my other apps: Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom CC, After Effects... all of which installed perfectly fine. However Photoshop continues to have this problem.

ADOBE, PLEASE HELP! I need to get back to work.

Side note: Why did this message get moved from the Photoshop forum to the "Get Started" forum?

You're doing better than me.  I cannot get LR or Photoshop to even execute the install.  The CC desktop app hangs up at exactly 21.5% nd won't budge from there.  I needs to be force closed.

Fixed! It was a long painstaking process but this worked. I had to COMPLETELY remove every trace of Adobe software from my computer.

Here are my steps:

  1. Uninstall each application individually
  2. Uninstall Creative Cloud Desktop app
  3. Delete /Library/Application Support/Adobe (and everything in it)
  4. Delete ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe (and everything in it)
  5. Look for any folder/file that contains "adobe" from within the ~/Library/Preferences folder
  6. Delete all Adobe folders from /Applications
  7. Delete all Adobe folders/apps from /Applications/Utilities
  8. Reboot
  9. Download and run the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to remove anything I might have missed

Since I have a business account, after these steps were completed, I created a new package with everything I wanted in the Admin Console, then downloaded the main package file that was generated.

Before extracting the downloaded package, I followed the instructions here to remove the quarantine placed on the file. Once these steps were done, I was able to install as normal. Everything was able to install and function properly after all of this!

I know this was long, but hopefully it helps someone!
