Can't make a compound path. all objects in a compound path must be paths and they cannot be brushed or be part of an object

Hi!

I try to make a compound path (one or several holes) on an image. Keeps getting this message.

It works if I just use shapes on shapes, but not on images like under;

You cannot make a compound path by combining vector objects with an image.

Either use a clipping mask or the Make Mask option from the Transparancy panel.
