Colorburst RIP 5.8.7 Crashing

Community Beginner ,

I have an Epson Stylus Pro 3800 and am running a Colorburst RIP (v 5.8.7) in Yosemite. My typical workflow is to output .ps files from either Illustrator or InDesign artwork, generate pdfs in Distiller, and then print the pdfs from Acrobat to the RIP. Artwork that originates in InDesign seems to print fine, but artwork that originates in Illustrator crashes the Colorburst RIP. Any ideas why this happens? Is there a difference in the Postscript generated from Illustrator vs. InDesign?

Hi Srishti - thanks for the links - I'll look into them.

Did this used to work in the past?

If you are printing to postscript on the mac the generator is the same, but your settings here might be different.

Have you tried to do a save as to .pdf from illustrator. Would save you the time and file management of an extra .ps file every time you print. Our GMG Rip requires the fonts outlined prior to that, and no custom spot colors that are not defined in the RIP.

Hi Mike - it used to work; I think the trouble started with CC 2017 (although I can't pinpoint it to the latest update.) I'll look a little more carefully at the Postscript options when outputting.

LATEST

The cloud with updates is sneaky, as by default they delete your previous version. I always look  for the option to keep the previous version installed, that has gotten moved around. In the latest .dot updates though I do not even think they give you the option.
