Large file size for Illustrator CC 2017 eps vs previous versions.

I recently upgraded to the latest version of Illustrator - CC 2017 - and immediately noticed that when saving an .eps from this new version, the file sizes are much larger than any previous version.  For example, I had a simple vector icon that was previously saved as a 7k .eps file.  I opened it in CC 2017 and saved it as a new eps file and the file size on the resulting .eps ballooned to 989k.  Is this normal?

I've tried playing with a number of settings in the save dialog and the file size of the resulting eps always comes out being 100x larger than it had when saved from previous versions of Illustrator.

Anybody else seeing this behavior?  Is there any magic setting I'm missing that will tame my file sizes?

Illustrator 2017 21.1.0

Mac Sierra version 10.12.4

The files are black only compound paths designs for laser cutting.  Paths are simplified as much as possible.  approx 16 items per page, they are each around 50mm x 50mm dimensions.

Not exactly the same designs but very similar and previously there were at least 20 per page.

I save it as an ai file, then a separate eps file CS6 (this is what the factory can read).  I'm still saving eps files as CS6

I was using the previously released CC illustrator version not sure what it was as its not on my system.

Thanks for your time!

Why do you save an EPS CS6?

Does the factory need an EPS? Then save EPS 3 (will be much smaller)

Do they have Illustrator CS6? In that case save an AI CS6 (without PDF compatibility and without color profile) , will be much smaller as well.

About which size are we talking here? Megabyte, Gigabyte? How much exactly?

Same problem here, file sizes used to be 3mb but now around 30mb, I have tried most things including delete unused panel items, which only shrinks the file by a mb or so.  Really frustrating!!

Which version?

Which system?

What exactly is in the files?

Is it the same content as in the previous versions?

How exactly do you save it?

What exactly is "it used to be"? Version 3 or CS5 or what?

Same issue over here.

Looking on the web there was a same issue in Indd CC17

As standard the ICC profiles are included in the new files.

Save as window

Uncheck the 'Embed ICC profiles'

If you want to keep it 'unchecked'

Go to Edit/assign Profile

choose 'Don't Color Manage This Document'

Now it gives an unchecked option at the ICC profile (save as)

We have also this Problem to create an Illustrator cc17.eps. Just draw a line with two Points create a file size about 3 MB. Something like that should not happen. It´s really a Problem to save all files as Illustrator 8.eps in a System with Schema ST4.

When I do that the file is 1.3 MB.

Try and run the action "Delete unused panel items" (or the like) It's a default action). Then save

Which ettings did you use previously?

Which settings do you use now?

Do you need this EPS to be fully editable in Illustrator?

Thanks for the reply.

Basically, I have always used the default settings for saving as .eps since I've never had a problem with that in the past.

However with this new version of Illustrator, in addition to just using the default settings, I also tried saving as previous versions of Illustrator (CS5), I tried changing the postscript language level back to level 2, I tried turning off font embed (even when there were no fonts used) and turning off document thumbnails and the filesizes are still huge compared to what they should be.

The fully editable in Illustrator is a non-issue.  The current file in question is a single color icon composed of a grand total of 5 shapes.  No gradient meshes, no fancy attributes, etc.  It's about as simple of a file as you can get.  There's no way that this simple of an object should create an .eps file that's almost 1mb in size - especially since previous versions of illustrator were able to save the same eps at 7kb.

As a further experiment, just now I created a new 100pt x 100pt Illustrator document and drew a simple ellipse on it with the default black stroke and white fill.  I saved that as an .eps file and the filesize is 1.7mb.  Crazy!!

Try and save it as EPS 3
