Original objects outline disappears when using "draw inside"

I drew a circle, pressed "draw inside" and drew a circle inside of the original circle.

Doing this made the outline of the original circle disappear.

I tried combining different shapes and changed the colors of the outlines/fill but that changes nothing.

How do I solve this problem?

(using Illustrator CC 2017)

Answering very late to this post but I just had the same problem.

The solution is to keep the brush definition on "Basic". In your screen shots the brush definition has gone from basic to 3 pt Round.

I had the same issue as OP, but I needed to change that setting from basic to be able to draw on top of a template. I initially kept seeing the prohibited symbol (circle w/ slash in the middle) until I changed the brush size. What steps would you recommend?

The original ellipse is serving to clip the second ellipse. If you really want it to have a stroke, try changing its stroke settings to align stroke to center.

Alternatively, duplicate the path outline of the original ellipse and paste it in front, using the new path outline to apply the stroke (no fill) and the original solely as a clipping mask.
