Question

Print quality poor since switching to CC

Ever since I went from my very ancient version of Illustrator to CC, the print quality has not been good. Trying to print any kind of script text (with curves) or even some designs I have done, anything printed that doesn't run horizontally or vertically is jagged. You can see the dots making up the color. I have spent hours on the phone with Xerox concerning the printer and we think it's an issue within Illustrator. I can save as a PDF and there is a big difference in quality when comparing the two printouts. Anyone else experience this? I am on a new printer from the older version of Illustrator as well as a new computer but this printer is just a newer model, with better specs as far as color, etc. go. So if anything it should look better than previous work I've done with the old printer. It doesn't seem to be as noticeable when I print documents with more of a full color on the page. But simple designs with a white background stand out pretty bad. Anyone have any suggestions? I feel like maybe there's something I'm missing in the print window but I don't know what it is.

    Does that printer support PostScript?

When printing from Acrobat, it has its own RIP. Illustrator doesn't and depends on the printer.

Your printer, the printer driver, the system and Illustrator need to be compatible and play well together.

Please post the printer model and driver version as well as your system. Maybe someone has the same and can help.

Yes, it is a post script printer. Xerox Phaser 6510. I’m on Mac OS 10.12 Sierra. Thanks for your reply hoping someone can help!

Could you post screen shots of your Illustrator print window as well as the operating system's print window which you can access by clicking on "Setup" in the lower left of Illustrator's print window? If the operating system's window comes up in a truncated version click on "Show Details". The operating system's print window should show the Printer Features section which you can get by clicking on the pull-down menu that should say "Layout" and choosing "Printer Features". Please try to show all relevant settings.
