Text in EMF/ WMF exported from Illustrator looks overlapped when placed in MS Word.

Thanks for reaching out. I agree with Steve, it might be an issue with MS Word. I exported an EMF with two different fonts and EMF file looks fine in PowerPoint (left) and a little bit messed up on Word (right).

I would request if you can try opening the same file in Powerpoint and check how it looks there.

A work around could be to convert your fonts to outlines in Illustrator before exporting them to Word. But, make sure to save a copy of your Illustrator file with live editable text before doing so.

To verify whether the WMF/EMF is already at fault, or whether it's Word not behaving/importing/interpreting it correctly, it's useful to open such a WMF/EMF file back into Illustrator and see if it's still okay – or not. If not, then you're running against limitations in the WMF/EMF file format or some messy font problem in Illustrator. If it still looks okay, then it's out of our hands, and maybe some messy front problem on the other end. To check the font factor, try similar tests, using a different font, like an Arial. Just for the sake of testing...

It sound like a Microsoft problem. Ask in the Microsoft forums.
