Hello,
I am trying to set up a newspaper template for an Arabic client who has an English version of ID - but the bulk of the content will be typeset in Arabic by the client.
They are used to setting up the document from back to front and I can see that I can set the text boxes right to left facing but my question is::
Even after I have set up keyboard Arabic input the downloaded Arabic fonts still come up either as boxes ( adobe Arabic system font) or English letters are displaying with and Arabic "look"
I am thinking it may be better for them to re-install the Arabic ID version & I just design a layout with master pages and no fonts styling - they can work through that.
Is there another way?
Thanks in advance.

They need to have InDesign with Arabic support downloaded in order to control languages aspects such as text directions, dictionary, Khashidas, etc.

Thanks Zaid,
So if that's the case, the Arabic version is already set up for right to left page set up/folio/paragraph flow?
Will they be able to use an ID template I have created for them in English version with regards to general layout - columns/images boxes etc?
thanks in advance

The document which you create will open in their version of InDesign and appears well however, they will have to fix many things, most importantly text frame threading which needs addressing before using the document as all text frames must be flipped and shifted from their location on left page to right page and vise-versa.
All text stylesheets must be addressed too to appoint World Ready Paragraph Composer instead of the default Adobe Paragraph Composer for the English InDesign version.
They have to address font and typography options as well as dictionary.
So if you want my opinion, you'd better download an older InDesign with Arabic Support and build your template there. This way you keep your latest English InDesign version and use the older InDesign for this particular job.

Hi together,
just want to add: Changes should be made to story direction and table direction as well.

Very good advice!
Best,
