InDesign

I am creating multiple book files based on the indd files I have. In each book file the chapters are in different orders. How do I set up my parent page to automatically update the chapter numbers as it does for the page numbers? No matter what I try all the chapters keep the same number as the first in the book file.

When I open an InDesign file…it comes up snd fills my screen..,I have no control. What’s going on? Is this a fixable problem?

Redémarrez InDesign pour récupérer votre travail dans les documents...” Après, chaque tentative d’ouverture de ce fichier entraînait systématiquement le même soucis.InDesign propose également une récupération automatique du document, mais celle-ci échoue à chaque fois.J’avais essayé les manipulations suivantes :Redémarrer InDesign plusieurs fois. Réinitialiser les préférences d’InDesign. Désinstaller puis réinstaller InDesign. Supprimer tous les fichiers de récupération (dossiers InDesign Recovery). Dupliquer le fichier et le renommer. Ouvrir le fichier en le faisant glisser directement dans InDesign. Ignorer la récupération automatique en cliquant sur « Non » lorsqu’elle est proposée.Aucune de ces solutions n’a résolu le problème. J’ai donc recommencé un nouveau fichier en partant d’une base qui était enregistrée avant ce

I have created an interactive calculator for a few of our price list documents. To do so, I have to copy/paste the calculator created in PDF to the PDF documents. I would like to see if there is a way to do it directly from the InDesign document so it will save me time. I have 9 documents to do this to. Mac Indesign 21.4.1 Undo/Redo does not work. Plus stability issues. Never had stability and lagging issues with Indesign until last couple updates. Very frustrating and complicates my workflow. Need to force quite often as well. Bad update. I am thinking about reinstalling earlier versions.

I have a book with some dozen files. The files are all open, synchronised, page numbers updates and fully preflighted. I Have Generate Index.,Include Book Documents.Enable Replace Existing Index.Yet, the index fails to pick up numerous entries.See image, there are many many entries for ‘Kevin’ but only one picked up. Grateful for any help 

I uncheck "Open in Full Screen Mode" when exporting an interactive PDF, but Acrobat (and Reader) continue to tell me my PDF is trying to open in full screen. This document is for non-tech savvy people who are going to have trouble with extra clicks or changing Acrobat settings. What am I missing here?

When I go to update a review link in InDesign, I keep getting this error message "there was an error updating the artifact". After that, the link does not work for most people. I am signed in to Adobe. Everything is up-to-date.... But this issue still persists. Can Adobe please fix this issue? It's emarassing when I go to send the review link to my leaders and they just get an error message when they try opening it.   <Title renamed by moderator>

In Indesign I open Index, I highlight a word in my document that I want in the index (I don't want topics). I have "reference" selected. I choose New Page Reference, Add All and Done. I have Current Page selected. Then my entry ends up as a topic. It happens over and over again. What to do?

I’ve tried using the “open a PDF in InDesign” feature, but every time it puts each page into a separate alternative layout. This makes opening multi-page PDFs kind of worthless. Is there a fix for this?

When I try to delete Indesign files from my desktop, even if the files are small - it can take up to 60 seconds for things to fully delete. Same when using box or google drive folders and copying to desktop. These are small files, and no other program’s files take the amount of time the Indesign files do. Sometimes even renaming takes up to 45 seconds. What’s up with this? Mac OS 15.7.7, Indesign 21.4.1. 

Hello, I have a multi-page AI file placed in my InDesign document. After making changes to the AI file, I save it. When I check the Links panel in InDesign, the yellow triangle alert appears. I ALT-click the update button, and InDesign updates all the links, but the changes I made in the AI file are not reflected in InDesign. This is a process I've done many times before without any issues. The same problem occurred with a different file yesterday. I've tried restarting my PC in case it was a glitch, but that didn't help. Do you have any idea why the link update function isn't working as it should?   <Title renamed by MOD>

The properties panel, when on and open, creates freezing trouble when working on older files not created with the current version of Indesign I’m using.  It’s a significant freeze/delay when clicking between text and image containers and text or select tools.  Even having the type tool open, things like highlighting a word can fail.  I might get 3 letters out of a 4 letter word highlighted before it freezes.  Selecting two image boxes and a text box might lock it up for 2 to 8 seconds. Or it may just skip one of four items I tried to select, such as the third item because it was in the middle of a freeze while I was clicking that one. etc...This very specifically was detailed by another user 7 years ago and the topic was closed stating version 14 had fixed this issue. But here I am dealing with it today on the newest version creative cloud has me updated to.  21.4.1Here is the previous topic from 7 years back.  That describes what I see happening and it’s frustrating to no end, and it

It has been working with no problems for years but now I am unable to open. If double clicking a file to launch, it will get as far as displaying the file but then freezes. If launching InDesign from the task bar, it will open the standard UI display but then will freeze.The pre-flight shows "checking" and I can hear the PC working on something in the background, but nothing within InDesign works and I have to end task using Task Manager.I have uninstalled/installed numerous times but still having the same issue. I have also gone through the delete preferences process.

Since version 21.4.1 it doesn’t take long and an InDesign session won’t work without problems anymore. I drag an image in a window or change text in a textfield and the cursor turns into the “busy” symbol (revolving circle). It doesn’t turn back into a normal cursor anymore and all functions seem to be restricted. The program seems to be busy with something.I also cannot close the app the normal way. There is a warning window opening up when trying to do it via menu. But this window closes itself after a second and I cannot read what it says.The only way to shut down the app is by opening up the task-manager and close it with “end task”.I am working on a windows 11 x64 system.

Why I can’t report a Bug in the Indesign Community?The names in the “open recent” menu are not readable. the are lay over by other letters.Indesign 21.4.1 on MacOS 26.5.1  

We have InDesign files on our company data drive which is storred on a server.Some of the external content we link to from InDesign are storred in a MS Teams site.When person 1 adds linked content, the path is something like C:\Users\person 1\company name\site name\folder\file name.extension.If person 2 edits the InDesign document, the link is broken as InDesign seems to use adbolute links, so the linked content is pointing to a location (C:\Users\Person 1\… and not person 2.How do we use InDesign with linked content on MS Teams or SharePoint, when the paths change for each user or is this not possible? Thank you for your help. Chris.

Since updating to 21.4 there’s a strange shape over the left upper corner of the screen, rendering the X-value of the transformation panel more or less inoperable.MacMini M1, Mac OS 26.5.2  

I am facing frequent hanging issues with the latest update of Adobe InDesign software. Please fix this problem as soon as possible so that I can work smoothly.

Working in Indesign 2026 v 21.4. The drop shadow exported incorrectly from the settings for it. Onscreen it looked as it should, but once exported it shifted it dramatically. I tried adding in and changing the distance in the drop shadow settings but it always showed up the same, incorrectly. Anybody else experiencing something like that?This image is the onscreen, correct view, it is only supposed to add a slight shadow so it is set to 0 distance.This image is of the exported png file with the clearly incorrect rendering of the drop shadow where it is clearly offset and at a distance
