InDesign

I have been trying to figure this out for several days now. I’m using 2025 InDesign on a Mac. I have one merge file with images that works just fine and I use it all the time. I’m trying to set up a separate merge file with a lot more images. I fixed several errors that were causing me to get the “missing image” error. Despite all that, I now get no errors but a merge file with text and blank boxes where the images should be. I have noticed one other difference between the merge file that works and the one that doesn’t: In the working one, my image frame has the correct column name <<logo>> inside the frame where the image should be, but the one not working does not display any text. Would be so grateful for a solution!And just to cover my bases, yes the column has an @ sign, and yes, I tried putting the spreadsheet in the same folder as the images and using the image file name, which got me the same result: No errors, but the frames are still blank after merge. Using Windows 11, current version of InDesign.Trying to complete the digital/ebook version of a book.First, I’m not new at this. Been writing and doing my own publishing for 37 years. I have never had this particular glitch before.No matter what I do, all my centered graphics are left-aligned when exported to epub. The exact same file does fine in both 8x10 and 6x9 print versions, using all the same graphics and settings.Object styles are used for all graphics.I’ve tried using other graphics I’ve used many times before with no problems, and graphics I’ve never used. If it doesn’t belong here, do not hesitate to delete it and I’ll take it elsewhere.I am working on a project of art book, a coffee-table book. To give you an idea, the page size is currently set at 250 mm wide (almost 10 inches) × 340 mm tall (13.3 inches). The basic photos I work with are uncompressed TIFF files of 7,500 × 5,200 pixels, which at the rate of 300 ppi, should be enough to cover a full spread when necessary. Each TIFF file “weighs” about 230–270 MB.However, many times I will use the photos at sizes smaller than one page. My question is, in such a case, should I always Place the full-sized TIFF file anyway, and trim it down to the desired dimensions in InDesign, or do that work before in Photoshop and import (Place) only the smallest possible photo file, so as to avoid bloating my book document? Or does it not really matter after all, as the number of megabytes saved would be negligible?Placing th

Hi everyone. I recently worked on a publishing project as a designer using InDesign, alongside an editor using InCopy, with Google Drive serving as the cloud storage for the files. Everything was under control until the day before printing, when one of the InCopy assignments was overwritten by a version from two weeks prior. Since I don't handle the text content, I never touched that assignment; the editor had made last-minute corrections but certainly hadn't reverted it to such an old state. Does anyone have any idea what might have happened? After a thorough check, the editor is certain the issue was limited to that specific assignment, and my InDesign file remained unaffected. Do you think it’s possible that Google Drive (which backs up various versions of every file) might have automatically restored an old backup? Ciao a tutti. Hello all,Today I have two questions to which I haven’t found an answer by myself:1. My usual layout has one text frame filling the whole page, but divided in two columns.When I insert a footnote, say in the left-hand column, I want its text to remain in that same column, and not spill over under the right-and column as if I had given a Span command.I have seen in questions already asked in this forum that some users have their footnotes behave natively just like I would want mine to behave, but I haven’t so far found a way to achieve that result.I attach a screen capture, as a picture speaks a thousand words, or so they say...2. is it possible to widen the space between the short separating line above the footnote, and that footnote itself? I have tried Space Before in the Footnote Paragraph Style I have created, but it doesn’t seem to work.Many thanks to you all for your help.Dominique

When working in InDesign, entire objects (text fields, color areas, linked images) disappear and are no longer displayed. Not even their frames. The layers cannot be selected by clicking on the location where the elements are located. Zooming into the document or changing the view mode doesnt change anything in the visability of the objects.  However, the objects are still there in the layers window. Similarly, when exporting a PDF, the invisible objects become visible again. I can make the objects visible again by copying and pasting them onto a new page or by saving an IDML and opening it. However, the objects keep disappearing when working in the file.Tested with GPU turned on and off.

How can I export full bleed images to reflowable epub? My exported images got a thick white border around on Kindle Previewer. 

Hi,I'm having issues with InDesign. At random times, I'm all of a sudden unable to save my document. I can't save, save as or undo anything. All these options are "grey" in the menu, and all I can do is close the document and hope for the best. First I thought it was because I had an old iMac, but recently I bought a brand nye iMac with the latest version of InDesign,  but the issue is still happening, with several different documents pretty often.   Working with a lot of books and deadlines, this is very stressful and extremly annoying. I always use the shortcut for saving, but then I realize nothing has been saved for a long time, and I have to start all over again.  Is there a way to fix this?  

hi there all, I am struggling with a basic problem. a few years ago i suffered a massive stroke, now I am back to work I have noticed most of my Adobe CS skills are missing. I am trying to create a 50 page template for an InDesign brochure/report. Each page needs to have a fade from the top to the bottom of \\\\\\\\\#00E5FF to #ff2dAA at the bottom. I know this is quite easy, can anyone help me out please? I could not even get Firefly to understand what I need. Honestly, I used to do all the brochure design etc for my business as well as for our clients. I have a project to create a book, but the page numbers need to use Arabic-Indic numerals (١، ٢، ٣، ٤، ٥). I’ve looked for tutorials online, but I haven’t found anything that answers my question. :(

PC - Win11 - 32GBRAM, 8Gb GPU, Intel i9 12th genI’m working on a 32-page document with text and images.I clicked or typed something (I don’t know what) and now the page previews do not appear in Pages panel and the cursor is a blue spinning ring, indicating the system is processing something. It works, when I click on things but I need the arrow back.This happens whether Preflight is on or off.Any ideas, anyone?Johnny

Hi, I do have some old files are using PageMaker 6.5. I try to use InDesign 2022 to open it, seems not working. May I know How to open it and save it as PDF

Already posted in the Acrobat forum but I think it belongs here.Machine is a Zenbook Duo (Windows 11). When exporting a relatively small (five page) document to PDF, InDesign hangs and never recovers.Workaround is to tick the “Create separate PDF files” checkbox and combine the pages afterwards.Is this a known bug or am I doing something wrong? I’ve used InDesign for years and have never before seen this behavior.

Curious if anyone has had this issue. I have a freelancer using an older version of Illustrator and InDesign (I do not know which versions he uses). He recently sent me his working files for a project that includes die lines created in Illustrator and imported into InDesign.When I opened the files in the current version of InDesign, the path were no longer imported images--they were paths in InDesign. And they were completely wonky--they no longer looked like the die lines I had seen in pdf proofs he had submitted.If you look closely at the attached screen grab, you can see the original path that was created in Illustrator, which is rounded and smooth. Then you can see how the path actually looks in InDesign--angles and curves that do not follow the path that was created.i don’t understand how this could happen. Note that I am assuming that the issue is in the use of the older versions of the software and opening the files in the current version--but i don’t know for sure that is what

I can’t delete the note icons. I can get them to temporarily disappear but they always come back. They are a carryover from the file I copied so I could use the same styles and formatting. I saved it as an .idml file but that didn’t take care of the issue. 

Hi there,Please could anyone tell me if there is a way to (or why we cannot) reorder the colours in the drop-down colour palette…?I have created several colour groups and swatches (lower down the list than shown in the image below), but there doesn’t seem any easy way to simply reorder it so the colours and groups I use most are on the top… It would be so much easier if I could just move my favourite / regular colours by clicking on the line and moving it up or down the list. This would seem an easy thing to implement, but no-one seems to know why the functionality is not already there.  What am I missing, and can anyone help?I note there is not even an “Adobe Indesign” category in the drop-down list for Feature Requests, so I’d like to know where I’m supposed to be sending this… ?R A B
