I’m currently having this problem in version 21.2. VERY PROBLEMATIC!

The whole application feels very tetchy.

I’m having the same issue on ID 2026.  Win11.  Can’t do more than 4 undo actions.  All documents, old and new.  And ID 2026 can’t convert to IDML to reopen in ID 2025.

Have you installed the 21.2 update? It’s supposed to be fixed with that.

In addition to other questions: how much RAM and free disk space do you have?

@iosefa

What if you hit Ctrl+Z few times - can you undo more than is displayed on the History panel?

To add to @Robert at ID-Tasker suggestion, can you REDO with the keyboard command?

Also, this is a long shot but the Magnet app on Mac has been causing tons of problems. Do you have it installed?

Hi @iosefa,

Sorry to hear about the issue. This typically occurs when the document is closed. Did you happen to close the document or experience a crash? For more information, please visit: Undo History Panel in InDesign.

Hi @iosefa,

Thank you for sharing the details! Could you let us know:

  1. The version of InDesign you’re using.
  2. Your operating system (e.g., Windows 11, macOS Ventura).
  3. Does this issue occur in all documents or only a specific one? What about newly created documents?

Also, have you tried resetting your preferences? If not, you can follow the steps here: Reset InDesign Preferences.

Let us know how it goes!

Best,
Abhishek Rao
