InDesign

InDesign is doing this semi freeze thing when I place or replace images. Random images and random formats. The background task hoop turns on and I can do somethings sometimes but not always. If I close everything then close the program there is a message but it's up for a half a second, disappears and then a new start window opens then refuses to do anything else. I have to "End Task" to get it to close. I've deleted tempfiles, uninstalled and reinstalled, turned off GPU, and did that Ctrl + Alt + Shift thing.

When using the Data Merge feature in InDesign, I am encountering an issue where the content from my second document (B), which I am trying to data merge into my main document (A), gets repeated multiple times. Specifically, the merged data appears like 'aaaaaaaaab1aaaaaaaaab2' and continues in this pattern for all records of document B. This results in an excessive number of pages—up to 1000 pages. How can I resolve this issue so that the data merges correctly, without unnecessary repetition, and I can achieve the intended layout?

I have a bunch of images I’m placing, and doing so by entering file names.When I search, InDesign ignores my OS settings (Mac) and searches my whole drive.Not a huge deal because I’m working from a files that are found easily, but is there a way to limit the search to the last folder from which something was places, perhaps unless otherwise navigated?thanks

I wrote a newspaper column using Pagemaker for several years. I cannot access the ones written before 1996. I am hoping to convert the columns into a blog but can’t access the text.I have tried using Indesign but the files are not recognized. I tried opening with Word, but each column (roughly 1000 words each) is roughly 400 pages long as it is filled with formatting detritis.Any suggestions?

Hi All,  We are an architect company in UK and 2 of our colleagues in the office have updated their 2020 iMac's to OS Tahoe and although their hardware is more than capable of running InDesign & Vectorworks at the same time, since updating, they can't run these 2 programmes at the same time. After doing some reading and Chat GPT, it seems Adobe are having problems with compatibility with Tahoe? Vectorworks (even 2024) seems to be ok with the update. Are there any plans for better compatibility with Tahoe soon? Or any tips in the meantime would be most appreciated. Thanks Roger 

Hello, I’m formatting some text and would like to target characters within a set of parentheses, but only the first set (if more than one parenthetical occurs within the paragraph).Example:word (pronunciation) n. definition definition (second parenthetical); additional context Where only “(pronunciation)” would be styled and not “(second parenthetical)”. I found a prior thread with two strings that work to target all of the parentheticals within a paragraph. However, I don’t know how to only target the first parenthetical. I’ve tried to wrap the expressions in brackets and adding “?” or “+?” but those don’t work, and that’s the limit of my GREP understanding.i.e.((?<=\()[^)]+)+? Is there a way to target only the first parenthetical in a paragraph? If it’s relevant, I’m also using a nested style to target the first word to apply a different style.

Hi there!I create large book files for conference proceedings (the page range varies between 200 - 850 pages depending on the conference type). I am looking to mitigate the amount of time spent revising individual files, the TOC, and relinking images once they are added to a book file.Explanation of my current process:I am having authors add there content (text and images) to an InDesign template and then having them send me a packaged InDesign file. This is meant to ensure they use the correct layout and font styles. As expected, some authors aren’t in tune with InDesign and are either copy and pasting incorrectly or changing settings in the template file. When I receive the files, I also open and review/edit each file. By the end of my review all font styles, figures, etc. are linked properly.Then I create the book file. In the book file I add my interior cover, front matter and the separate author ID files. Hello community. Ive made a document with some buttons to navigate to certain pages, when I export as interactive PDF I get the following warning.  But then I export as Epub, and view it in Thorium and the buttons are working fine.I asked ChatGTP and it's telling me Indesign can export Interactive PDFs, but I'm doing something incorrect. So do interactive buttons function in exported PDF interactive, or this function is only for Epubs?Thank you.PS: I view the interactive PDF in my adobe acrobat reader, where I can see a little hand hovering over my buttons, but nothing happens, if this information helps to solve my problem.

Hi,Getting an issue with indesign and not recognising the calibri system font installed. From what I can see, there’s a new version of calibri with a latest windows update. V6.26 > V6.27.   Myself and colleagues are effected, and this is spanning across a lot of our documents. Replacing the font does not fully solve the issue as any forms text fields will not update to the font box.  I’ve seen a similar post regarding this with the same issue on times new roman which is marked as resolved but it most certainly not.  FYI, installing calibri via adobe fonts does not work, we are getting a conflict likely due to it already being a system font. We also running the latest version of indesign. Any help on this?

User said: "Certain dialogue boxes appear partially off screen and can't be moved back on screen. For example, the Find/Change dialogue box and the Export dialogue box [specifically export to PDF (Print)] have both become almost unusable for me because important sections of those two boxes are located off screen. See attached screenshots. Dialogue boxes that allow you to expand them by clicking and dragging the edges/corners of the box are less of an issue - they often appear partially off screen, but once they're expanded at all, the whole dialogue box pops back into view. The Find/Change and Export dialogues do not allow this kind of expansion so that trick does not work for them. For the past month or two, any time I try to Place a file or update a Placed file, InDesign usually freezes. The cursor turns into the spinning circle. I can close and save the files after this, but cannot close the InDesign app. I try various ways to place the files. File > Place or Ctrl D or copy and paste the placed file from another InDesign file. The files I use are typically on my Google Drive and I’ve installed the Drive app on my machine.This is REALLY getting annoying. Adobe used to be so good with bugs. Any ideas? Over the decades I've contributed useful information on various technical issues -- CJK, footnotes, metadata -- but now my attempts to login usually get ignored; occasionally I see a message saying the account was deleted or banned.  To my knowledge neither is true, and even if they were I believe Adobe was supposed to send an e-mail explanation, which I have not received.  After long discussion on-line Adobe's general help told me to create a new Community account with a different e-mail to log in and ask the Community -- and I cannot use my old name.  Can someone help me?David W. I’ve seen this problem mentioned in the InDesign Community a few times in the past, but has anyone recently had problems with Share for Review comments unmapping from their pins? 

Already an older version of ID had this bug, but years ago the screen was white grey, now dark greay.how to happend: 1. Mac sleep, 2. Mac awake, 3. all ID screen is dark grey, even if refreshing or changing zoom or position. 4. I can select elements, but I see only the blue selectors, not the content or background. 5. need to quit ID and to restart to work as usual. 6. not seeing the content I sometimes do not know If I should save or not – risking to loose the work. 

So here’s a new one to me.I have a Google Sheet that contains content copied from the web so that HTML formatting could be seen in code form. I’m working on a book, 288 pages. Plenty of images, all .eps files as I’m working with spot colours for risograph printing. I’ve been working with this set up for years and I never had this issue. When I try to export the file, the app crashes, and as it took some 30 seconds before the crash I thought that the file was too heavy for my machine (Apple Silicon M1, 2021, 16BG running Tahoe 26.2 with >1TB memory available). So I started splitting the export in smaller parts. It all went ok for pages 1-49 and pages 50-99, but when I went to export pages 100-149 the app crashes, sometimes immediately, sometimes after some 10-20 seconds of exporting. I found it consistent with the first export attempts of the whole file, which occurred after some 30 seconds—maybe some file is corrupted around mid book and if I skip that batch and proceed to export pages 150-199 I might be able to isolate the error and keep exporting the book. Nonostante abbia rimosso le immagini dalla pagina, non riesco a eliminare definitivamente i relativi collegamenti.Di conseguenza, ad ogni apertura del file mi compare l’avviso “collegamenti a sorgenti mancanti” e nel pannello Collegamenti vedo ancora le anteprime con il punto interrogativo rosso, che vorrei eliminare completamente.Inoltre, se clicco su “Vai al collegamento” non mi porta a nessun punto del documento e non riesco a trovare un modo per eliminarlo definitivamente: l’unica opzione che sembra disponibile è quella di riassociarlo a un’altra immagine.Qualcuno sa indicarmi come rimuovere in modo definitivo questi collegamenti mancanti dal file?Grazie in anticipo!

I have a half-page postcard with small images embedding. I’m trying to save it to my CC files so I can share with a collaborator, but it either never saves or takes 20-30 minutes to save. Is that normal?
