InDesign

I have been using a font – Prenton RP Pro – for a numbers of years for a regular publication. I installed it from Adobe via Creative Cloud. It comes in 10 weights/versions.Last week i started getting errors for missing fonts. Indesign has changed the name of the font from “Prenton RP Pro” to “Prenton RP Pro (OTF)” and has split it into two groups: one with Black and Black Italic weights, and one with the other 8 weights in it (Light, Regular, Italic etc). I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the font family, checked Font Book for conflicting installations (none), have tried restarting machine and Creative Cloud in various orders, all to no avail. My colleague has no problem with his font (showing as a group of 10 weights of Prenton RP Pro - without the (OTF)). The problem is that if he opens a file I have worked on, it shows font errors and vice versa. We can no longer work on the same documents, which is proving impossible. I don’t know where to go from here. Advice appreciated

I am Running InDesign 2026. I went: Type > Document Footnote Options > Layout. My understanding is that is where the maximum attributable area for footnotes on a page can be set. The option is not there. Where is it?

I am running Creative Suite 2026 on a new Mac Book and am having problems with InDesign features being grayed out. Like the undo and redo functions are greyed out, as is paste in place. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also the ‘group’ and ‘ungroup’ features are greyed out. I can’t figure out how to do a screen grab of a drop down menu.Thank you. Alison Kennedy

I ran into a problem yesterday with placed images in my document not showing up properly when I exported the file to PDF. It was only some of the pictures, not all of them. At first I thought that there was something wrong with the original image files, so I re-saved them and even went so far as to delete the placed images and place them again. I reset the preferences. Nothing worked.Until now. I’m posting this in case anyone else runs into this problem. It turns out that the fill color of the rectangle behind the placed images had been accidentally set to spot color. Deleting that swatch and replacing it with a regular color swatch fixed everything. Hope this helps. 

Scenario 1: I need to retrieve data for the current page, so I use ‘var p = item.parentPage; ‘    For example: The number of columns on the current page is ‘marginPreferences.columnCount; ‘ Scenario 2: I need to move objects within the current page, but I can only use ‘d.Page[0] ‘.  Because the following code(var pb=p.bounds) throws an error: ”null is not an object”.—I suspect the object is considered out of bounds. What should I do? Suddenly, my InDesign is giving me 110 Pre-Flight errors, all saying that my Segoe UI font is missing.  It appears in the document OK but how do I get rid of the error messages and assuage the software?  Do I somehow reinstall the font? 

Share for Review link made - client made edits with specific instructions to select text first on screen then click button to leave the comment for feedback and the feedback is not showing on screen in the backend so there is no way to put a comment with what is on the page.  I checked it myself and it is not showing my edits on the page either… HELP!! 

Dear all,I encountered one problem regarding footnotes in InDesign and hope you can help me with. I have a magazine with articless and in the beggining of each article is author´s name and short info what the article is about. The thing is that author has a footnote with * and info about article footnote with **The article itself has a standard footnotes with numbers 1, 2, 3 etc. So I would like to know if there is any chance to combine * and numbers in footnotes on same page? I am wondering how to figure it out hoping that someone has a solution of this problem. I believe that InDesign has a feature how to deal with it.Thank you very much for your help. 

When I publish my document online half of the page content is missing? There is two different page sizes on the document, and it looks like the size of the smaller pages are what is showing on the larger pages. I have been using this document for years without issue.

I’m writing an InDesign script using JSX. I want to loop through all frames and check if they have specific script labels set, which I then want to use to change the page of the linked PDF file. Estoy trabajando con Indesign y al querer grabar el archivo aparece, de forma  consecutiva, diferentes mensajes de error, pero en concreto todos dicen que el archivo está dañado y no puede acceder a la base de datos, o la base de datos está dañada. Ej: “No se pudo concluir la operación debido a un error de base de datos. El archivo “DBTmp222801908943437” está dañado (código de error: 2)”. Tampoco me deja guardar como .idml, lo intenta, pero luego se cierra abruptamente el programa.   Incluso eliminé el Indesing y volvi a instalarlo  y ocurre el mismo problema. 

I am creating some design savvy technical spec sheets for lighting products. With a large number of these to make, I’m looking into automating as much as possible using data merge and importing tables. Each spec sheet has a performance table that is annoying to manually edit. I think a mixture of styles, and tables within tables will solve my problem. But not sure how to set that up in Excel. I’ll attach an example of the spec sheet and table. For further reference, I have old spec sheets that I’m using ai to pull the data out, then reinserting into the new. So been doing copy/paste but going to setup data merge and extract all the data into tables and then insert that way.  I think this is the most efficient way of doing this. I’m a photoshop guy, this is my first time using InDesign.

Hallo Ihr,ich habe einen neuen Kunden, der als Font Palatino Linotype gewählt hat. Beim Platzieren von doc-files (ich bin wegen diverser Probleme auf ID-Version 18 zurückgekehrt, um Probleme durch docx zu vermeiden) wählt ID Palatino Linotype Nothing, das als solches nicht erkannt wird. Wenn ich das durch Regular ersetze, muss ich alle Abweichungen (bold, italics) manuell ändern, d.h. den Text akribisch durchgehen. Außerdem nimmt ID rote Schrift statt Schwarz und alles unterstrichen (trotz anderslautender Einstellungen). Es gibt hier offenbar ein Problem, dass die Software Absatzformate ignoriert.Habt Ihr eine Idee, wie ich das ändern kann? Ich arbeite mit Win11 und InDesign 18.5.4 x64. LG, Birgit

Constrain proportions for width and height in InDesign 2025 (20.0) is broken. In previous versions of InDesign the constrain-status would stay the way you selected always, now you have to link it every time you scale something, it's quite annoying and adds an extra step to workflow.   <Title renamed by MOD>  

I have just upgraded from CS4 to Creative Cloud, so I am still discovering things that are different . .This problem is that the dialog box for creating a New Cross Reference takes about 40 seconds to load. That doesn’t seem right, so what am I doing wrong?I place my cursor in the desired location. Open the Cross References window Click on Create New Cross Reference Wait 40 seconds (it seems even longer!)Thanks for your help.

Hello, in short, what it says on the title: InDesign 2025/2026 freezes (ends up as “not responding” in the Task manager) when interacting with the Paragraph Panel or with other, simple interactions; there are also multiple CEP HTML Engine instances that are generated, and there might be a possible file corruption, though I couldn’t verify that. Just clean installed on a new Mac. I used to be able to use my Microsoft bluetooth numpad keyboard to bind shortcuts to paragraph/character styles, but InDesign doesn't want that anymore. The field will stay blank, but the shortcut still works…

Hi, Getting a problem with adobe publish online where uploaded documents are appearing like this where you only have a small box rendering.  This is how the document should look (screenshot from indesign) What we’ve tried:Save as idml > open idml > save back as indd Uploaded as a previous link Uploaded as a new link Get other designers to try and upload the document on there computers Changed the settings in the advanced panel to different valuesFYI indesign, chrome and the windows are updated to the latest versions.Anyone else come across this issue? Any other information I can provide to help please let me know.Many thanks,Tom

Nach dem Update auf macOS 26 (Tahoe) tritt beim Verpacken von InDesign-Dokumenten (Version 20.5) ein reproduzierbarer Fehler auf, wenn die verknüpften Dateien auf einem Synology NAS (DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 9)liegen und über SMB eingebunden sind.Die Fehlermeldung lautet:„InDesign konnte das Dokument nicht verpacken. Notwendige verknüpfte Dateien können nicht kopiert werden.“Das Problem besteht nicht, wenn das gleiche Dokument samt aller verknüpften Dateien lokal auf der internen Festplatte gespeichert ist. Dort lässt sich das Verpacken problemlos durchführen.Tests mit unterschiedlichen Dokumenten, Schriftarten und Dateiformaten bestätigen, dass die Ursache offenbar in der Kombination aus macOS 26 + SMB-Zugriff auf die NAS zu liegen scheint – nicht an beschädigten Dateien oder ungültigen Pfaden.Wir bitten um Prüfung, ob es sich hier um ein Problem im Zusammenspiel von macOS 26 (SMB-Handling), Adobe InDesign oder DSM 7.1 handelt – und ob ein Fix oder Workaround geplant ist.Vielen Dank vor

InDesign 21.3 reintroduces the document window position bug on Mac: document windows now expand below the tools panel. Clicking the green button while in this state doesn’t do anything. If clicking the green button after repositioning the window to its desired state, the window expands under the tools panel again. Reverting to InDesign 21.2 restores the normal behavior. macOS 26.2. Just posting it here for the record.
