Can't create a normal map with Photoshop

[Moderator moved from Adobe Creative Cloud to Photoshop.]

Hi,

I used Photoshop to create nomal maps. Suddenly, it doesn't work anymore. Usually appeard an extra window with adjustments for the normal map to be created.

Neither Filter > 3D > Create Normal Map and Create Mesh > Sphere > Marterial > Create Normal Map from Diffuse

is working.

I have changed nothing on my system. Just updating always to the last Photoshop-Version.

What's wrong? I tryed to reset settings via holding CTRL+ALT+SHIFT during starting Photoshop, no result.

Hi Christoph,

Sorry to hear about that, could you try updating Photoshop to version 20.0.1 via Creative Cloud desktop app, if you're not using the latest version?

I'm having the same problem, normal maps no longer work! 😞 I rely on this feature. Please help! I am using the latest photoshop, too. Can I go back to 2019? I really need my normal maps.

This does not work. Even if it did, resetting your preferences EVERY TIME their is an error is extremely annoying. My photoshop did not crash or every close incorrectly. ABODE FIX YOUR SOFTWARE. I can not continue to waste time with poor performing Photoshop.

i have the same problems with the normal maps. the configurations have no effects. Please release one working version of Photoshop or give us the older versions back, they worked correctly. Thanks!

Hi Christoph,

Sorry to hear about that, could you try updating Photoshop to version 20.0.1 via Creative Cloud desktop app, if you're not using the latest version?

Hi Sahil,

I renamed the folder "Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 Settings" in User/AppData/Roaming/Adobe - so Photoshop created new settings.

Now it works again. What causes this problem?

The reset option via Alt+Strg+Shift during Photoshop-Start doesn't do anything:

"Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You are prompted to delete the current settings. The new preferences files are created the next time you start Photoshop."

No prompt whatsoever...

Preferences are saved every time Photoshop closes. If it does not close down correctly they can become corrupted leading to abnormal behaviour.

Resetting preferences by Ctrl+Alt+Shift can be tricky to time but it does work. However, provided that Photoshop can be opened, in later versions they can also be reset using Preferences - General -Reset preferences on quit. Then restarting Photoshop.
