Gold-ify objects

Heya!

I come mainly from AE and have close to no experience with Photoshop.

I was wondering if any of you know a good trick or way to give a good gold effect to objects in static pictures.

For example a picture of a human head, to make only the head look like it is made of solid gold.

This is for a project I have about Midas' golden touch story, so basically turn everyday objects into gold.

Thanks in advance!

The first thing I usually do when creating an effect, is to look for images of the real thing, so I know what I am trying to simulate.  You can use this to sample colours, and compare contrast and the way highlights work, and even the texture.

Adobe Fuse is still a Beta so free to install at this stage, and you can chose a head and rotate it to the angle you require.  I'm guessing that you have a particular head in mind though.

Because the head already has good strong colours, we can use Hue/Saturation and click on the little hand icon and then on the image, and we can adjust the Hue slider to affect only that colour range. Note we can adjust this by dragging the sliders in the colour bars at the bottom of the Properties panel

Next you need to boost the contrast with a Curves layer.  This is all non destructive and can be adjusted as often as you like

And finally, we need those strong highlights which we can create using the dodge tool directly to the head layer.

This is quick and dirty by way of demonstrating.  Note this is _not_ non destructive, so best to use a copy of the head layer.

Thanks John and the same to you.  It's 27°C here right now, and I have just come back from, Christmas lunch with friends and neighbours as my wife is working today.  I believe the situation is a little different in NY at the moment, but it's more like you expect Christmas to be.  I still haven't got used to Christmas in the summer.
