Question

Once again - unusable "Could not complete your request because the file is locked"

It is without doubt good software. But a serious business proposition?

After the required upgrade to 2017 I get the following error in Photoshop CC:

"Could not complete your request because the file is locked or you do not have necessary access permissions...

... Properties command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file".

So - "unlock" the file? There is of course no such command in the Properties tab...

This error occurs a) when I try and use Select and Mask and b) when I try and record a new action.

What do I mean by asking it it is a "serious business proposition"? - Actual support from Adobe is not available until Monday. It is now Saturday. Yet my business requires that I batch process a number of files to be ready for Monday. Due to what is clearly an error in Adobe's update process my business is damaged. It isn't a serious business proposition to my mind.

If anyone knows what might be a possible solution to this error that would be great.

Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 to assign FULL Windows permissions may help... says Encore, but sometimes required for ALL Adobe programs (this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account)

    Thanks John

I tried that (found photoshop.exe - right-clicked on it, found the Compatability tab and set to run as Administrator). Then it didn't run at all.

(I am logged on to Windows 10 as an Administrator).

What did work for me was uninstalling and re-installing Photoshop from the Creative Cloud App. That's fixed the problems I outline above. I just had to remember to set my Preferences again.

Incidentally - my original post has been moderated. And some comments I made have been eliminated. In my view it would be better to either remove all my comments about the business angle - or include my comments that the main issue seems to be to do with the updates and subscriptions part of the software, not the core product - and that these issues can cause quite serious problems for users. I am only suggesting to Adobe (if anyone is reading) that it might be worth giving some attention to this area....
