Problems with calibration

Hello,

I am trying to calibrate my printer( Epson P600) and  display. I created profiles for display and printer (for specific paper and inks). I tried to print this test chart PrinterEvaluationImage_V002_ProPhoto | tinorama | Flickr  ( in tiff format)  and some colors  are very different.  When I press "Match Print Colors"  I see exactly the same - very different colors, very similar to printed.

What is the reason of this difference? Bad profiles, printer limits or something else?

btw, how many patches are ok for p600?  Now I use  80 from munki two stages process.

PS. I walked through docs, it seems I need much more.

I tried several other stupid ideas:

    1. Attaching printer via USB (it was connected by wifi). No changes.

    2. Edit profile to add patches. Result is also great:

I printed this image with "Printer manages colors" and it was totally fine. Not accurate, but still fine.

Definitely it's not the paper. Maybe problem with driver or munki? I will try to use my laptop with fresh windows.

I'm sure the paper is fine, that's not the point I'm trying to make.

What I'm getting at is basic troubleshooting procedure. Eliminate all unpredictable variables, then work your way upwards until something fails. Then you know what the problem is.

So again - does it work with "Photoshop manages color", using the Epson profiles on Epson paper? Does basic Photoshop printer color management work? This is important to establish first, especially on Mac, where the operating system gets involved in the process and OS bugs can break the whole chain.

Sorry, can't check this - I don't use Epson paper.  PS color management seems ok - different profiles produce different results. I found  old profile I created long time ago for another paper and it produces nice results.

And I have good news! I took ArgyII and created profile based on 1400 patches. It works much much better.  I printed 5 photos  - they are identical(except some small shifts in brightness  in several places) to image on display. WIll check more images tomorrow.

You have not given any info on your color settings but my first question is why have you got your display profile attached to that test chart? If you have also set that profile as your monitor profile then you are viewing on screen without color management.

The only place a display profile should be used is in the system as the monitor profile. In Windows that is done in Windows settings (not in Photoshop or anywhere else).

Similarly the printer profile should only be set in the printer dialogue - nowhere else. Also color management in the print driver should be set to off (with all other printer settings such as paper type, quality , speed etc the same as when the profile was made)

The document should have an image color space profile - such as sRGB, Adobe RGB, ProPhoto etc

Get those things right and set the color settings to Preserve Embedded profiles and color management will look after itself.

I played with different color settings/combinations. Result is the same - when I use printer profile I get this:

(Match Print Colors - I also get such print out of printer)

There's nothing wrong that I can see here  - but what are the settings in the printer driver (Print Settings)? Do you have the correct media type set there, and is printer color management disabled?

"Match Print Colors" is supposed to be a soft proof, but it also simulates the black point (unlike soft proofing in Photoshop) - and not very accurately at that. A more reliable black point preview is to set it in the monitor calibration along with white point.

A general comment: Never "play with" color settings. There is only one correct profile for any given condition - the one that actually describes that particular condition. This is the whole idea of color management in a nutshell. Use the right profile.

It would help if you could show specifically what colors are wrong. We're just taking your word for it. Is there a color shift, or is it just out of printer gamut?
