I just purchased Adobe Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC. I have opted to keep my previous version of Photoshop (CS6) on my computer as well as Photoshop CC. I have noticed that my CS6 is now an "Extended" version. I didn't expect or want this change. Why did this happen. Thank you for your assistance.

The Creative Cloud version of Photoshop is CS6 Extended and its Photoshop Version 13.1.2. There are three version of photoshop CS6. The Perpetuals version of  Photoshop are platform specific and extended functions are enabled or not enabled depends on your Licenced serial number.  Mac perpetual  CS6 is Photoshop version 13.0.6. PC Perpetual CS6 is Photoshop version 13.0.1.3.  It sounds like your perpetual CS6 install was updated to  Creative Cloud version 13.1.2.  When this happened to me on Windows the update broke my CS6 installation it could not be used or updated.   I had to install CS6 version 13.0 on top of the broken CS6 install to back level it to a bad CS6 13.0 version.  Once I did that then  CS6 Updated updated version 13.0 toea working CS6 version 13.1.2. However the  Optional CS5 plug-in I had installed  Web Photo galleries(WebContactSheetII) and picture package in (ContactSheetII) fail to function in Photoshop version 13.1.2 where they work in Photoshop version 13.0.1.3.  They still function in CS3.

As JJ mentioned, since CS6 is part of the Creative Cloud, CC takes over the version and converts to to the cloud version. Happened to me also.

Even when you do not ask Creative cloud to update CS6 it updates CS6 that Adobe for you.

Mr. Mack thank you for your reply. I wasn't expecting a change in CS6 after purchasing Photoshop CC. I guess I should have known something like that would happen. Again, I appreciate your response. Thanks !

    Hi Don

I don't know why it happened, but CS6 is not supported on Catalina.
